Mamdani belongs to a class of people referred to as "red diaper babies" They have been soaking in this ideology since birth, and are raised in private schools to insulate them from reality. Generally they will spend a semester or two in a public school just so they can claim they have been there and "understand."

It's similar to the unpaid interns that go home on the weekends to get their laundry done and get groceries. They claim to understand poverty because they had to eat top ramen occasionally while living in the apartment in NYC that mom and dad paid for.
