Beneath that veneer of being a scary ex-spy with a cold gaze and entirely too many knives hidden somewhere upon his person, Ivar actually has a giant heart and is incredibly fond of the whole gang (yes, even of his big brother, although that may veer into "fondly exasperated by" more often than not - it certainly does near the end of the current book). And of the dog, too, even though he professes to be a cat person.
