This seems to imply incompetence on the part of forecasters, unless I'm interpreting your post incorrectly. Unfortunately it's actually quite difficult to pin down the exact motion of the eye and eye wall since a deviation of just a few miles can make a huge difference as to where the worst of the hurricane actually ends up. Overall forecasting accuracy has been pretty remarkable for a while though, and forecasters did call for Milton to weaken some as it approached the coast and that's exactly what happened. Floridians still did the right thing by evacuating. Let's just be thankful it didn't reach it's full potential.
