I have been spending more time reading lately.
Even though I usually read nonfiction or historical fiction I've decided to indulge in some escapism and read some fantasy. I was nostalgic thinking about all of the science fiction and fantasy I read and loved as a young person.
I thought there would be lots of epic battles, dragons and magical beings maybe.
Somehow in the past 50 years or so fantasy has gotten pretty spicy. Not sure how I missed that but when I told my daughter and grandkids they thought it was hysterical that I was surprised. I said a little spice won't hurt I guess and kept reading.
One of my first jobs was working at a pharmacy. I still remember the strict religious women sneaking in the store on the day the new harlequin romances hit the shelves. You would think they were buying forbidden fruit or something. Maybe they were.
They must be loving the novels these days.
