I rant about it quarterly, but I still can't wrap my head around how profoundly we f--ked up the incentives for content creation. I'm not talking TikTok. It's the same for "brainy" / long-form / trade stuff on the internet.
Many of my most-viewed articles are current-event hot takes. You know what they have in common? They are absolutely worthless today. A total waste of time. They "mattered" for 5 minutes.
This and low-effort memes are the only things that dependably give instant gratification. Second pic is my other hit: 1M bad-place views for tweeting an image of a tweet.
It s-u-u-u-cks. I can pretend I don't see it, or that it doesn't matter, but it kinda does.
