For me, it seems like the cartoonist views protestors as less than. That protestors are living in difty conditions, and that the only focus in life is being a protestor, and that they are living poor life styles. Reflected by the dirt/grime reflefcted in the room, quality of furniture, the bong with the beer bottle sitting on what appears to be a milk crate.

The cartoonist gives the impression, that protestors are "dirty poor people".
