Free character premise: a paladin whose relationship with their divine patron is actually abusive.
We always think of warlocks as the sugar babies whose discount wish dot com patrons can only muster up two and a half spell slots. But a paladin's relationship to their patron is the sort of unwavering devotion which makes an terrifying fit for any deity who wants to gaslight gatekeep girlboss their way to the top.
What lies does the paladin believe about their patron, and what uncomfortable truths are those fictions concealing? How does the party begin to notice the discrepancy? How can you protect someone or help them escape the clutches of a literal god?
