#WritersCoffeeClub 17 May: How do you ‘write what you know’?
"Write what you know" is advice commonly given to new writers. I used to fight against this because I wanted to write about things beyond my life experience, but you do need to know what you're writing about.
It's much better phrased as "know what you write". This could mean personal experience, but also includes research. You don't have to be an expert on everything you write about, but do learn enough not to make basic errors.
