I'm not an expert on this stuff, but going through the process they are currently going through seems to be what Bitcoin is all about. They're just using the protocol. If you consider people using the protocol to achieve somethings you disagree with to be "an attack on Bitcoin" it seems like you think Bitcoin ought to be exactly what you want. But I don't think that's the case.
