Mathematics is the abstract scaffolding of the universe (at least in many peoples' view, including mine), and music is a way that people can really feel math, without the laborious process of learning all the rules and notation. Having gone a decent ways into math and physics, I can feel a similar transcendence when flowing through derivations and proofs.
