I won’t waste time arguing with you about something I at least 90% agree with you about. All I’m trying to drive home is that people who care about inflation at the same time that we heavily subsidize immoral insanity abroad are not only or even primarily blue-haired cry babies (as I think the meme is meant to imply). I take no pleasure having  even a singular common cause with those freaks but I do (shows how well those issues resonate). I will also never scoff at complaining about inflation because when people do, whether they know it yet or not, they are really complaining about taxation via money printing. \n\nAlso please don’t assume that I think that this situation is an excuse to sit on your thumb and not build anything. But at the same time, look at vanilla CPI or even the 1980s-based CPI calculation on something like shadow stats. The post-Covid inflation and unemployment spike is not as sustained as the late 70s /early 80s situation but it’s not an accident that people feel kicked in the balls either (because they are getting kicked in the damn balls). And that’s before we consider a comparison based on a hard-asset measure like average wages priced in gold. Or, while I’m listing things here, did young folks in the 70s/80s have to deal with infinity illegals+student visas+H1Bs competing for the entry level and suppressing the wages of many careers fields?\n\nSo jack, again, I agree with you, it’s not the tough times of the 70s. But that also means that it’s not the 70s in more ways than just what you are thinking about when you compare it to your own life. It’s a different type of shitty (maybe not as bad as the kind of shitty you came up with). But it’s still a shitty that presents some meaningful challenges. And now as then, the only fatal mistake is turning the challenge into an excuse not to try. (I’m not in my 20s btw)"}
