I’m considering paying the taxes and getting rid of all of mine. \n\nI don’t care about the tax benefits. They exist at the pleasure of a government that is structurally bankrupt. As a millennial in the USA it is a safe bet that the government will undergo another crisis before I retire and that they will steal/nationalize any assets within their reach. \n\nThe IRS already knows I have Bitcoin (regrets) so my biggest risk is that they gate my passport and tell me I have to pay unrealized capital gains or I can’t leave. But under those circumstances the mask is off and it becomes clear that their proposed taxation is theft. (Like the scene in Atlas Shrugged when they torture John Galt).  I still retain sovereignty and have the right to say no and accept the consequences. In a retirement account, they just take it. \n\nI’ll take sovereignty, please. "}
