It's called ‘That Wānaka Tree’ and grows in the waters of Lake Wānaka, in New Zealand, surrounded by mountains and a breathtaking landscape.
Over the years, it has attracted photographers from all over the world, including leading professionals, who have tried their hand at capturing the perfect shot. Because there is something special about this tree: it is beautiful in every season – in the snow, in the light of dawn, at sunset or when its leaves change colour.
It is always the same tree, yet every time it looks like a different photograph.

Painting may seem like a completely pointless activity to others, but that creative act – without any purpose or audience – switches the brain into a different gear, allowing it to rest whilst it works.
And believe me, that’s no small thing.
Instead it's Genoa, the city where I live.
Those who keep the world in order free up time for those who comment on it.
So thank you to the people who clean, tidy, wash, cook, organise, collect and move things around.
It is thanks to them that others can think and create. 🙏

Disappointed to see Nostrich heading in this direction. I was genuinely looking forward to your marketplace as another showcase for my paintings, but turning it into an NFT collectible economy built around scarcity and trading feels like a troubling departure from what I hoped this project would stand for. Not every creative community needs to become a speculation market.

Oh, I wish it were! I found the video on Instagram and it inspired me to make a painting. Maybe I'll use a still as a reference.

So far this year, I’ve sold only three paintings. Just three.
But each one has found its way into someone’s life carrying a story deeper than I could ever have imagined when I painted it.
Stories like yours remind me that perhaps the true value of a painting cannot be measured by how many are sold, but by what happens when one of them finds the person it was meant to reach.
Three paintings may not be many. But if they can touch someone’s heart, awaken a memory, or become part of a story so deeply personal, then perhaps that is already something extraordinary.
Sometimes, quality truly means more than quantity. And sometimes, one painting is enough to remind you why you keep painting.

I’m honestly struggling to find the words. Your story has moved me more deeply than I can express, and I’m writing this with tears in my eyes.
When I paint, I never really know where a painting will go, or what it might come to mean in someone else’s life. I can only follow what I feel, put a little piece of my heart into it, and let it go.
Knowing that The Promise of the Clouds found its way into your life, and that it has become a daily reminder of something so precious to you, is a gift I will carry in my heart for a long time.
Thank you for sharing something so intimate with me, and with all of us. Thank you for seeing in my painting something that perhaps I could never have put into words myself.
I don’t know what else to say, except that I feel deeply grateful. Perhaps this is one of the most beautiful things that can happen to a painting: to leave the hands of the person who created it and become part of someone else’s story.
