Mues went off and started her own band (called Thireun). and now her old rivals are raiding her and getting away with it because she lost the protection of her old band.
Life is hard. maybe she should ask to rejoin...

Wow, Mues has gotten a little crazy - stealing all that land has gone to her head, and now she doesn't want to stay with her old band anymore. Her naturally high autonomy and the appeal of fresh land is compelling...

LOL! I had opted to steal different people's farm fieds purely as an example for the screenshot. a few months later in the game now, the original owner is pissed and Mues has to decide to either give way or defy them. The AI leans towards defying them, and I agree. We'll see what happens next...

People have different levels of respect for property, which in turn influences how they weigh the choice to work a field that _appears_ to be used by someone else..
https://npub19ma2w9dmk3kat0nt0k5dwuqzvmg3va9ezwup0zkakhpwv0vcwvcsg8axkl.blossom.band/75efc3934c5443684dbaaab11c01ff599d76488aaad4d7cfe187c20663dd046d.png
The other party weighs what being asked for a field would mean for them. expected bonus from generosity, how much they need it themselves, etc.
https://npub19ma2w9dmk3kat0nt0k5dwuqzvmg3va9ezwup0zkakhpwv0vcwvcsg8axkl.blossom.band/375136f2a833182a3a935f49221cad0bb7c415668d730822e1386ac97c0c220a.png
(the player can just let these decisions happen, or can step in and steer the AI on either side).
Sometimes people do just decide to take the field anyway....

...and sometimes the "owner" lets it go, depending on their disposition and current needs

of COURSE you use your own harness 😆
Agreed. Even beyond skills and configs, the project's content itself is enough to dox you.
For perfectly private/anonymous, local inference is still the gold standard. or encrypted providers, but last I checked they were fairly expensive for worse performance. maybe it's better now
When you reach your usage limit, yes.
Anthropic's biggest plan at $200/month is probably currently cheaper than using the same amount of tokens on hosted open models. But if you go _beyond_ the usage that the $200/month plan offers, the equation flips the other way really fast. Anthropic API credits are much much more expensive than the same tokens on open models
at this point, i'm having a hard time telling any difference in quality of work between GLM 5.3 and Opus 5.5 on a complex codebase. and it's far cheaper (and anonymous) in sats over @nprofile…gs7e than paying Anthropic.
meanwhile we're building our own games of our dreams with AI and paying no mind to the "gaming industry"
i won't be convinced that general anesthesia isn't just strategic amnesia until the Hard Problem is solved.

hot tip: if you're about to upgrade a claude plan, do it when you're at your usage limit - it resets right after you pay.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU MEAN
You know the world is getting a bit overcrowded and violent when more people are dying in raids and camp sicknesses than old age... :(

Turns out the new wife is a 17 year old warrior woman. Shortly after the wedding she participated in the raid on Keota (Keota has been fucking annoying for years). Luckily, she survived.
Would have been kinda cool if she died.... I suppose this was a good marriage. She may have made all the difference in the raid (after-action reports should be a feature).

Oh shit, one of Riu's cousins got married at the gathering! lol this game is so fun and i'm the only person on earth who has ever played it.

hmm... just noticed that the bride and groom are both Poszes, though. that's interesting.
Every summer, groups from all over the map head to a regional summer gathering near them. That is, if they had hear about it due to trading and fighting with others. A lone band in the middle of the woods doesn't magically know about the gatherings. And as a result they'll probably die out before too long

narrator: the Althing-style gatherings did indeed solve the marriage problem. and created a lot of other fun effects, like knowledge sharing and aligning on the best forms of money
remember when we called it a puter? i always preferred that to "comp".
You've inspired me to completely lose my sanity building what I think will easily be the best video game ever made. Started like a hour after this exchange :laugh_lg:

So, is this AI psychosis? well, the Sites thing works for these hunter/gatherer seasonal sites, so not hallucinating yet. but will this same generic system work for 1800s gold rushes and Indiana Jones-style relic hunts? Yet to be seen!!
Currently developing a system whereby disparate bands meet seasonally at gathering grounds to share knowledge, settle disputes, propose marriages (like the Icelandic Althing). Sites known to people get used over and over, with structures being maintained or falling into permanent ruin for later societies to find.
This, too, is a generic concept - "sites" are interesting places that people can discover and can share knowledge of with each other. for now it's these gathering places, but as the ages (and game dev) progress, a "site" might take all different sorts of forms and be shared for any number of reasons. I would imagine that later on, gold prospectors will use the same generic mechanism to share or sell valuable knowledge of gold veins. Fully emergent gold rushes should be a thing or else I've failed.
so far, no. i'm playing the actual game and it's actually fun and shows true emergence/complexity.
the game itself uses no AI whatsoever. it's all just Rust code for complex simulations. so the "ai psychosis" risk would end at my talking to claude to generate the code. The static, AI-less code is what i'm interacting with when playtesting, and that's truly cool.
The one place where AI may be hypnotizing me is with promises of this game model being able to scale past early agrarian society. I've (and I mean **I**. not claude's idea) came up with an abstraction/folding system where the same rules that apply to simulating an individual and then apply to a household - which is a folding of many individuals together. and multiple househoulds form a band, many bands/neighborhoods can form cities, cities -> nations, etc. and all throughout, the "folded" entities still retain some emergent surprises - like there is a probability of a single individual "poking out" of a city if the probabilities align so that it makes sense for him to do so.
My rule with the game was that any level of organization, down to the person, should be able to emerge and meaningfully dissent/break away, if they have a good reason to do so and the means. So far this has served well at the levels of scale i've got: individuals get fed up with their band's location far from firewood, so they might choose to take their family and start a new band. or they may convince the rest of the band to move at once. and bands themselves sometimes merge when it is advantageous for them to do so.
Still yet to see if this will keep scaling up through the ages! But I have good reason to expect this approach to be arbitrarily scalable without losing too much of the detail that makes the lower levels dramatic and fun.
I'll post some recordings of feature demos today. i get claude to do these for me sometimes.
it's regularly blowing my fucking mind, btw.
what i'm building: "if the Civ series was as emergent as Dwarf Fortress" aka "what Civ always wanted to be"
i'll sell it to you when it's done :)

i'm "playing" it every hour of the day as i'm testing
> "Seed 1’s raiding drove population collapse into isolated, marriage-starved families, while seed 7’s cohesion kept marriages going - suggested solutions: couples, Althing-style gatherings, raid spirals/value drift, and disease; in that order"
> "Seed 3 collapses mainly from marriage failure, not raids: after year 60 bands fragment into isolated families scattered 75–200 tiles apart (beyond the 60-tile marriage range), so marriages stop and values like ambition drift to extreme outliers"
This is what "bug fixes" look like:
> Constant raiding over a century drives surviving bands toward higher ambition and vengefulness, while families shrink until none remain to marry, causing extinction. about half of long-running worlds collapse this way, half grow into the thousands.
so much cool emergent stuff arising out of a handful of values and motivations at play between the individual and social layers + ecological pressures and technological discovery.

I can't believe how long computers were basically just like a relative step above levers and pulleys, in hindsight, looking back from this moment now when they're actually capable of reasoning and problem solving.
It's incredible how far we DID get with very very stupid machines. This next chunk is gonna be crazy.
it's come a long way in a day....

yea. or like dwarf fortress + civilization with a huge helping of anarchism 😆
A world/society simulator with nested hexes, down to the individual person/tree and out to a whole continent. multiple people can form factions (or leave them), trade, go to war, claim territory. forage, chop trees, grow food, research tech trees. hierarchies are emergent based on individual and group choices, "borders" aren't real. buy loyalties are.
I'm currently having my mind blown. development is moving stupidly fast. we'll see where it hits the wall of "idea sounds incredible on paper but isn't feasible in software or UI" - haven't gotten there yet!

First example of a WSJ article('s guts, through an AI summary) being readable on nostr without signing in, too 🤔

as seen in, for instance: https://brainstorm.world/e/naddr1qvzqqqyu8upzqj776gtjqafzr6knjwst4myu2vpr3mqe9s4fekauwa2t4rpn27myqyw8wumn8ghj7errdaekctnzwfskjmnnw3hhymfwwahhymryqq2x7umd94hx7er995cnqwf3xcmrvwfkx5mqyn4slw
when can we play with this?
you might consider tagging their profile after you’ve met them in person. https://brainstorm.world is a nice UI for applying decentralized tags to profiles.
Some day, the chain of pubkeys who claim to have met in person might be extremely useful data.
I haven’t gone over the equivalent of $10 in sats using GLM 5.3 Flash for days (via @npub130m…l29s)

WHOA! congratulations man. sounds hard but worth it.
I'd love to get off caffeine but I don't see it happening any time soon. Also I fucking love coffee
whoa! well, "I" am working on setting up a VPS-based install for myself at the moment :)
I look forward to the desktop version
hah well you might be happy to hear that claude found and recommended signet on its own volition
@npub1m2j…3wgu is signet still alive and kicking? i need a self-hosted bunker. I tried it when you first announced it and liked it, not sure why i stopped using it.
a diffs and pr ui for gitworkshop can't be too far off. plenty of prior art to clanker-copy
