Today was one of those days when I didn't work on any of my projects :D

No coding. No debugging. Lately I have been spending more time with old technology than new technology. I am building a BBS on an old netbook and trying to turn a regular USB stick into a bootable environment for my Nostr signer. Both projects have taught me something. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the hardest to get working properly. Modern technology makes so many things easier. But working with older systems reminds me how much we can still learn from them. And strangely enough I am enjoying the problems almost as much as the progress.

I don't know if I am getting old but old technology and software have been catching my attention more than ever lately. Or maybe I am just trying to find a little piece of my younger days again. 😊

What about you? What have you been working on lately? Do you ever find yourself going back to old technology just for the nostalgia?

#nostr #oldtech #retrocomputing #linux #bbs #opensource

SkySigner has been giving me quite a few headaches lately. 😊

Every time I fix one problem another one seems to appear. Sometimes it gets frustrating but today I finally felt like I was getting a little closer to my goal.

Seeing SkySigner USB OS v0.3 reach the vault creation screen on my old netbook made me genuinely happy.

There is still a lot to test and fix. But after all those errors and failed attempts even a small step forward feels like a big achievement.

I am not giving up on this project. 😊

#Nostr #SkySigner #Linux #OpenSource #BuildInPublic

This gives me a few new things to check. I had not considered that vault creation itself might be pushing the old netbook to its limits.

I will check whether my vault creation process actually uses LUKS2 and Argon2id before trying the memory setting. Testing without toram and checking the kernel logs also sounds like a good way to narrow things down.

The username=skysigner suggestion is especially interesting because I have been struggling with that automatic login error.

I have spent quite a bit of time trying to get this USB OS working. Sometimes I fix one problem and another appears.

And don't worry about your English. My English isn't perfect either but I understand you just fine :D Thanks again for helping me figure this out.

It sounds very close to what I am trying to achieve with SkySigner USB OS. I will definitely study how it handles USB removal and memory erasure.

The startup problems are a little different from UEFI or Secure Boot issues. I managed to boot the Debian-based USB system and even reached the vault creation screen. But then the computer unexpectedly shut down.

In another test I encountered an automatic login authentication failure for the skysigner user. I have been trying to diagnose these issues before moving on to the USB removal and memory protection features.

I also experimented with loading the OS into RAM using toram but I have not managed to get everything working reliably yet.

Your suggestions about LUKS and keeping the system read-only are useful. I also had not considered the risk of corrupting the vault when unplugging the USB during a write.

For now I am testing on an old netbook with limited hardware. My goal is to eventually make it work on different computers without requiring any installation on the host.

I have been jumping between a few different things lately.

On one side I am trying to finish the remaining work on SkyLordsLab BBS. There is not much left to fix now. On the other side I am working on getting my Nostr signer SkySigner to run from a USB drive with its own bootable operating system.

Whenever I get stuck or feel overwhelmed with these projects I usually take a break and play some games.

Recently I was invited to test a game and I happily accepted. It had a nostalgic feel that reminded me of the games I used to play years ago. The timing was perfect too. I was already spending so much time working on a retro BBS and suddenly I had another nostalgic experience waiting for me .

Today I finally reached the end of the game I was testing. But the ending completely caught me off guard. I really did not expect that Game Over.

And there was another nice surprise. I was invited to the second round of testing. I am genuinely happy to have another chance to play it and see how it develops.

I will keep the name and details of the game to myself for now. I just wanted to share a little bit of what I have been doing lately.

Sometimes taking a break from one project leads you straight into another interesting experience.

Have you ever played a game that surprised you with its ending?

#nostr #asknostr #game #gaming #gametesting #indiegame #retrogaming #nostalgia #bbs #linux #programming #buildinpublic

On transparent chains, every data point inevitably becomes a weapon for authority and bad actors to rig the game in its favor. #Monero blacks out the board entirely, rendering actors blind to one another and forging the only unyielding equilibrium where censorship and discrimination cannot survive.

quoting
nevent1q…m2cv

The modern world has constructed the most flawless enslavement apparatus in history under the guise of freedom. While the masses have been pacified with fairy tales of a "decentralized revolution," they have, in fact, willingly surrendered all their economic energy to a global panopticon. The speculative assets marketed today as "cryptocurrency" are neither currencies nor liberating technologies. They are chains of consensual financial servitude. To see the truth, we must return to the roots of words -to the essence of being. For etymology, with the aid of philological truths, can refute many lies of enslavement and obscurantist ambitions.

The word "crypto" originates from the Greek root *kryptos* (κρυπτός). Its meaning is clear: "hidden," "operating in the shadows," "private," and "unseen." When we depart from this philological definition, we confront a philosophical imperative: for something to be a "crypto" currency, it must, by its very nature, be invisible and opaque. #Bitcoin and its derivative open blockchains do not operate in the shadows. On the contrary, they display every transaction, every wallet balance, and every economic relationship inside a digital glass bell jar. These systems are not "crypto"; they are, on the contrary, "phainos" (φαῖνος; shining, manifest, revealed) currencies.

There can be no revolution under surveillance. A ledger whose every step is mapped in seconds by the algorithms of Chainalysis, Elliptic, Ciphertrace, Integra FEC, TRM Labs, Crystal Intelligence, Arkham Intelligence, Scorechain, and the like, and monitored by artificial intelligences designed by states for taxation, is not a rebellion toward the cypherpunk ideal; rather, it is the most flawless financial shackle adorning the dreams of the modern administrative state and fiscal bureaucracy. There is only one system that resolves this ontological contradiction: #Monero (XMR). By shielding transactions, addresses, and amounts by default, Monero is the sole cryptocurrency that is true to its name. Everything else is merely a transparent leash upon sovereignty.

The founders of the Austrian School of Economics, Carl Menger and Ludwig von Mises, state that for an object to attain the status of "sound money," it must be fungible. Every single unit in the market must be regarded as entirely equal and equivalent to all other units, regardless of its history.

Bitcoin's transparent structure burdens every Satoshi with an indelible provenance. Today, a "taint" originating from cyberattacks, protests, or non-state illicit and oppressive networks (child and human traffickers, organ mafias, etc.) can instantly condemn that wallet and its owner to systemic death. For you have no right to refuse incoming transfers on a transparent chain. A malicious extortion syndicate or deep state apparatus can deliberately route "tainted" coins to your wallet, instantly taking you financially hostage and destroying your reputation without any semblance of due process. Monero eradicates the concept of tainted money at its root. Every XMR enters the system purged of its past. A property owner's wallet is entirely shielded against the venomous attacks of blackmailers or surveillance tyrants. Because opacity is the only way to preserve absolute fungibility -the most fundamental property of money.

Judicial documents leaked in recent years have documented that Bitcoin's largest infrastructure providers (Blockstream) and largest exchanges (Coinbase) were funded in their very infancy by actors of global blackmail and intelligence networks such as Jeffrey Epstein.

The Blockstream founders' plans to be hosted on Epstein's island, the dirty funds channeled through Joi Ito, Austin Hill, Adam "Andy" Back, and MIT, and the early multi-million-dollar investments into Coinbase are not simple financial accidents. This situation is the clear picture of how Bitcoin's cypherpunk soul was subjected to institutional capture. The phrase "like him," used by global elites regarding Bitcoin's founders, is the philosophical summary of submission. The establishment will, of course, support an asset that it can track, discipline with KYC shackles, and domesticate with Wall Street ETFs. In an age where states are attempting to eliminate cash entirely and condemn humanity to CBDCs -programmable slavery tokens- freedom will only be the privilege of those who can remain entirely "invisible" to the system.

Monero does not beg for institutional approval. It does not grovel for ETFs at the gates of Wall Street. It derives its consent not from states, but from pure, permissionless mathematics. From stealth addresses, Ring Confidential Transactions (RingCT), and ring signatures, to the FCMP++ (Full-Chain Membership Proofs) cryptographic standards set to go live in 2027, Monero is an asymmetric fortress of defense that constantly renews itself. Thanks to its CPU-based, ASIC-resistant RandomX algorithm, mining power rests not in the hands of massive institutional cartels, but in the hands of ordinary sovereign individuals. And with Dandelion++ technology, it renders all hardware you use on the Monero network untraceable and unlinkable, thereby not only acting as a store of value and medium of exchange, but also flawlessly fulfilling the function of a shield of value and property that transfers energy without friction.

For every libertarian and proprietarian community that defends the ethics of absolute private property and wishes to live by the principles of counter-economics, financial privacy is not a luxury, but a biological and economic struggle for existence. There is only one way to reclaim your lineage, your property, and your economic energy -every second of which you earned with the sweat of your brow- from the hands of parasitic elites, extortionist banker-bureaucrats, and surveillance tyrants: To become invisible. Let the masters in their glass towers design a world of transparent slavery; we are arming ourselves with the power of the shadows -that is, true crypto- and holding the line with unbreakable code.

Diğer her şey, egemenliğin şeffaf birer tasmasından ibarettir.

Monero, kurumsal onay dilenmez.

I had already thought about giving each stone a unique ID so its information and history could follow it when it changes hands. But I had not really explored how Nostr events and signatures could handle that part.

Using Blossom for photos and NIP-99 for trade listings also sounds worth looking into. I still have a lot to learn about how all of that would work together.

I have collected stones from different parts of Türkiye over the years so I could start by sharing a few of them with their stories and see whether anyone is interested.

Maybe I really should take this project off the shelf again.

I appreciate that you considered antiX and the fact that I want to preserve the terminal experience.

The reverse SSH tunnel approach is interesting because it would let my netbook initiate the connection without opening ports on my home router. Running a separate SSH service just for the BBS also makes sense.

My concern is still security though. Even with a reverse tunnel the public VPS would have a connection path to my netbook. If the VPS gets compromised or the BBS has a vulnerability then my other projects and potentially my home network could still be at risk.

There is also the VPS cost. I am trying to find a solution that does not require additional spending.

But I really appreciate the detailed explanation. I am adding this approach to my research list. I would rather spend more time understanding the risks than rush into publishing the BBS.😀

My idea is a little different from simply running a portable SkySigner binary from a USB drive. I am building a bootable SkySigner USB OS so the computer starts in a separate environment instead of using the host operating system.

SkySigner already supports NIP-07 and NIP-46. I want to keep both options available in the USB version rather than limiting it to local signing.

The goal is to keep the encrypted vault on the USB drive and require a password for signing permissions. I am also working on what happens when the USB drive is removed. The signer should stop and sensitive information should not remain accessible in RAM.

I have already managed to boot the system but I am still dealing with some startup problems. So right now I am trying to get the basic USB OS working properly before moving on to more security tests.

I know an ordinary USB drive cannot offer the same protection as a dedicated hardware signer. But I want to see how far I can take SkySigner with hardware people already have at home.

I like that it would preserve the terminal experience while keeping my home IP address out of public view.

But I still have some security concerns. Even if the VPS handles public connections the WireGuard tunnel would still create a path to my antiX netbook. If the VPS gets compromised or something is misconfigured then my home network and the other projects running on the netbook could still be at risk.

I also do not have a budget for additional hosting costs right now. That is another reason I am looking for alternatives.

I have spent quite a bit of time building SkyLordsLab BBS and I would love to let people try it. But I do not want to put my other projects or home network at risk just to make it public. Your suggestion is definitely worth researching though. Thanks for explaining it.

I wish you continued success with the project.

But I think you misunderstood what I meant by availability. I was not saying that you simply found a device somewhere. You actually designed and built it from scratch and that is impressive.

What I meant is that you have access to the electronic components and hardware needed to build something like this. Here in Türkiye many of these components have to be imported and even then some are difficult to find.

So building something similar to what you have made is not always a realistic option for us. Even if I wanted to buy your finished product I would first have to find a way to import it.

For example I have been wanting to buy a hardware wallet but Ledger is practically my only accessible option at the moment.

That is why I started thinking about SkySigner USB OS. I wanted to explore whether someone who cannot easily obtain specialized hardware could build a useful signing solution with something as common as a USB flash drive.

That is the question I am trying to answer. Not whether a USB drive can replace a properly designed hardware signer in terms of security but whether we can create something useful with the hardware we already have.

I have been trying to figure out how to keep SkySigner USB OS running after the USB drive is removed while making sure the vault becomes inaccessible. Separating the OS from the signer process might make this much simpler.

The idea of using udev to detect removal and immediately terminate the signer sounds worth testing. Then when the USB drive is inserted again the vault could start fresh and ask for the password.

I am still dealing with the shutdown problem during boot but I will definitely add this approach to my tests. When they first use it a vault setup screen appears where they can create and configure their encrypted vault.

The vault and its data stay on that specific USB drive. Once configured the USB drive becomes the key to accessing it.

I want the OS to keep running even if the USB drive is removed. But removing the drive should immediately lock the vault and disconnect all signing sessions. When the drive is inserted again the vault should become available only after entering the password.

Just like my existing SkySigner application I also want password confirmation for every signing permission request.

I am also trying to find a solution to prevent SkySigner USB OS or the vault information from continuing to run or remain accessible in RAM after the USB drive is removed. At the same time I am working on making sure everything functions properly again when the USB drive is reinserted.

The goal is to create a portable signing environment using hardware people already own rather than requiring them to buy a dedicated device.

That is what I am trying to build. There are still technical and security challenges to solve but I am continuing to experiment with it. 😀

I have already been working on the internal messaging system and recently added personal mail addresses for users. Exploring communication between different BBS systems could be a natural next step.

I am not in a hurry to publish it. For now I am enjoying building and testing everything locally. But I am definitely adding your suggestions to my research list .

An average gentile or goy would make the following ranking:
1. Racist
2. Sexist
3. Anti-semitic
4. Homophobic
5. War criminal
6. Genocidal
7. Totalitarian

But in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s, everyone was significantly racist, sexist, homophobic, and anti-semitic. So doesn’t this make everyone in the World War II era bad?

If the “Nazis” are bad because of alleged war crimes, then everyone is bad. All sides in World War II, especially the Soviets, committed war crimes. So they cannot be bad for this reason.

If they are bad because they are authoritarian, then the Americans and Soviets were even worse. In fact, World War II-era America under the rule of a tyrant like Franklin D. Roosevelt could be described to some extent as corporatist and fascist. Even Mussolini said this about the US. And the Soviets were already openly communist. Then the Nazis cannot be bad for this reason either.

Ultimately, the final reason these “Nazis” are the bad guys is the Holocaust, right? However, the Soviet Union also genocided over 10 million Ukrainians in the Holodomor and countless people in various cultural revolutions and purges. Furthermore, the US is not innocent either, because throughout the war it locked up Japanese, Germans, Italians, Nordics, and Arabs in its own territory in concentration camps in states with desert and steppe conditions like Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and California.

When we consider all this information on a basic level, we can conclude that there were no objectively good or bad sides in World War II, but still, some questions come to mind:

Why did the Third Reich hate the Jews so vehemently? They might say: Hitler blamed the Jews for everything and thus gained power. Other answers could be: They didn’t accept him into art school. Or the Jews refused to finance the defense efforts of the German and Austro-Hungarian Empires’ territories in World War I. However, these reasons are not solid enough justifications to drive a nation to genocide. We must remember that Germany had the highest Jewish population in Europe. Therefore, the average German interacted with Jews more than, for example, a Pole or a Latvian. So, why would those who had the most experience with Jews treat them so harshly based on “false” accusations?

First, we must examine the roles of Jews in German and European society at that time. Jews largely owned the banks, newspapers, book and film industries, and had a huge presence in universities. These four aspects necessarily bring with them the ability to greatly shape the society and economy of any nation. Let’s put aside for now the fact that Jews shaped the Treaty of Versailles, which severely damaged Germany’s national sovereignty and economy. But the problem here is that it is absolutely impossible to ignore that they destroyed German culture through books and films, manipulated public opinion through the press and shaped it in enormous awfulness, and spread the obscurantist ideas of Marx and his foolish cronies through universities. Given this, any person who is told to hate himself, his culture, and his people will push back and reject both this idea and the one expressing it.

It is no secret that supremacist Jews were largely the culprits behind the rise of Bolshevism and the collapse of the economy, culture, and social structure in Germany. However, this alone cannot be an excuse for genocide. At most, this is a justification for deportation, which was actually the Third Reich’s plan. The National Socialist German Workers’ Party worked with Zionist organizations before the war to send Jews to Palestine. This was called the Haavara Agreement. When the war broke out, this agreement was invalidated because Germany needed the workforce while its men were fighting, so labor camps were created. But this also brings up another question: Why would a nation at war actively kill its valuable workers?

It is illogical for a nation at war to kill its workforce. Yet so-called death camps like Auschwitz and Birkenau are constantly shoved in our faces. However, when it comes to the 6 million Jews killed in these death camps, an interesting anomaly also emerges. This alleged death statistic is mathematically impossible. For 6 million Jews to have been killed in the claimed timeframe, a body would have had to be burned in every crematorium every 10 minutes. Yet, even in crematoriums with today’s technology, burning a body takes 6 times that long.

Furthermore, if the gas chambers with wooden doors, toilets, and uninsulated windows were all fulfilling their claimed function, according to all the parameters of the gas chambers and the death statistics, this action would have had to take 16 years under the best conditions. Moreover, the worst conditions (economic and workforce-based), such as a state of war occurring on fronts covering every direction of the compass, prevailed; which indicates that it should have taken 60 years. Even assuming they somehow achieved this, there should have been mountains of piled human corpses large enough to be seen by observation planes flying over the camps every month of the war, but no such thing was observed.

In short, it is physically impossible for all this to have happened. So, if it is impossible for the Holocaust to have happened the way it is told today, then why do we still accept it as a fact? For what reason are we being lied to? For what purpose? The Holocaust has been used repeatedly for Europe to break and reject nationalism, that is, its feelings of respect and loyalty to the traditional institutions of family and property, blood and cultural ties, to stop taking pride in white identity, hereditary culture, and accomplishments, to pity the Jews, to silence their critics, and to legitimize Israel’s status as the only Jewish ethnostate.

If you’ve made it this far, it means you now know the answer to the question, “Why are the ‘Nazis’ bad?” The answer: They weren’t bad. History is written by the victors. And if the victor is evil, then it will ruthlessly demonize those who fought against it.

It’s no coincidence that there’s a Russian proverb that goes like this: “The Jew will always cry about what happened to him, but what he will never voice are the reasons for what was done to him.” The unjust slaughter of over 22 million Russian-Slavic Orthodox Christians and over 4 million Turkic-Tatar Muslims during the Bolshevik Red Terror Era confirms this proverb. Let’s end with a brief cautionary tale: Under the pretext that the cows are not breeding fast enough, various wild animals are admitted into the cow barns. It is said, “This is a refugee farm and they need to adopt the values of our cows over time.” No problem is seen in this... None of these wild animals produce milk, and what’s more, they consume massive amounts of hay. These animals breed so fast that the milking of the cows to feed the offspring of the other animals extends to the point where they cannot feed their own calves, and their milk dries up entirely. In this situation, the wild animals, becoming even more feral, begin to kill and eat the cows, yet the blame for this situation is portrayed as intolerance... And to fight cow privilege, some measures are taken urgently, including changing the definition of milk, which is understood to be an outdated social construct... They set about collecting urine and packaging it as “milk,” and the animals get enraged and start destroying the farm. Those who forced the admission of the wild animals, on the other hand, secretly escape during all this chaos and seek refuge in the only state in the world where being ethnocentric is not considered a problem.

14/88
