90% of my messages are signal. I forced the grandparents with "we will not be sending medical or location updates about our children over unencrypted means. Get signal or get no updates about our kids" outside of that by natural processes the people I like better tend to use signal.
So over 90% of contacts aren't or would never use encrypted. 90% of messages are encrypted. I just talk to those people more for largely organic reasons.

If voting does more than nothing but not much more, we agree on its size and only disagree on what to do with it. A vote is the one move the system counts as consent no matter what you meant by it. Turnout gets read as legitimacy, and a reluctant vote for the lesser option is filed the same as an enthusiastic one.
We've been running the lesser evil trade for decades and the direction of travel never changed, so the ballot looks like where outcomes get ratified and rarely where they get decided. If the board is as big as you say, put the effort where it compounds and let the booth be the one place I refuse to sign. Name one thing your vote moved that outlasted the next election.

I'd hoped that Signal would eventually start making good decisions but I'm getting pretty tired of waiting. The username option was great, but way too late.
The privacy tradeoffs seemed okay because at least more people would adopt it and leave me better off than SMS. If they have, it's very few people I know. Most I converted didn't stick around long. I'm left using it with very few people who would probably use something better anyway.
I'm not seeing the point to it anymore. At least not if decentralization and security are values. It's basically better SMS for like four people.
But I also have little reason to invest effort into alternatives and their problems because virtually no one uses them anyway.
I'm bearish on private/secure communication. Something like Nostr gave me hope that we could someday see a secure/private base layer that many messaging applications could use, but I'm kind of bearish on that too. Primarily because I can't get people to care. I figure there's a culture problem more than anything. Very few people care enough. Or maybe it's me.

Part 3.
The term burnout is thrown around a lot. So let's talk about what actually happened to me. We are not talking about the casual use of the term at all.
I want to clarify that saying it is unique for everyone and it appears that burnout for autistics is different than burnout for neurotypicals. We are talking about clusters of things that present to different degrees and different wants in each person. I speak for me first, autistics less so, and neurotypicals even less because the experience for each group is less like my individual experience.
Burnout for me was entirely about what it took from me. What did it take?
Skills were lost. An example. I was a 2 minute consistent solve on the Rubik's cube. Now I can't solve them any more. I realized this and tried to relearn, I was unable to learn how to solve it again.
Focus, working memory, and long term memory went to absolute 0. I had to learn to write everything down step by step as I went. Tasks I had done hundreds of times for work were impossible without my notes. If the slightest distraction happened I would have no clue where I was in the process, on a bad day even what I was doing right before something simple like I sneezed.
Executive function was also gone. This is the ability to prioritize and then direct your attention to tasks. Often the most important task became difficult because it was important even if it was simple. Think unable to mail a bill even though the money is there.
Energy was absolutely destroyed. I would eat dinner then sit and stare at the plate for sometimes 20 minutes trying to muster the energy to get up and clean up after dinner. I have been so tired I nearly slept on the couch because getting into bed seemed like too much work, on a day I took a nap.
Literal IQ lost. I could not think at a level I was capable of for my entire life. Problem solving skills destroyed. Troubleshooting skills destroyed. Planning skills destroyed.
From an everyone perspective, anything you fail to do just looks like moral failing. Laziness and not trying. Burnout has no physical flag like a wheelchair or cane to tell people around you there is a reason. You can't prove any of it to anyone who challenges you. You look like a person. No amount of swearing you are literally giving it your all convinces anyone.
From an autism perspective remember that no one likes you. The only social validation you have ever gotten was for being smarter or harder working. So you built your identity around it. That means it isn't just that you can't do the things. You literally can't be the person you were and you can't bring the only traits people found likeable about you to your interactions.
In the bottom of that hole masking now adds the cost of killing yourself to appear to still be useful in addition to all the other challenges. It means attempting to hide all the signs of your failing and sadness and desperation from everyone all the time.
I'll just leave it there. It's fucking horrible and I think that putting anything to make it more palatable a story would ruin it. It goes on like that. For me, this last time it was about 4 years.
