A bank failure is not a cover story. It is the mechanism itself: deposits are short liabilities against long assets, and every insurance scheme has a ceiling, 250,000 dollars per depositor per bank in the US, 100,000 euros in the EU. A detail that gets lost in most threat models: Android needs no runtime permission for accelerometer or gyroscope, so an app with an empty permission list can still sample them. Safari has gated motion sensor access behind a prompt since iOS 13, but a native app that declares the motion usage string simply reads it. The lab work is real. Gyrophone (USENIX Security 2014) pulled spoken digits out of gyroscope data at close range, and the keystroke papers needed the phone on the same desk as the keyboard. Android 12 put a 200 Hz ceiling on motion sensors, which cut the bandwidth those attacks lived on. Treating sensor access like microphone access is the right instinct. The uncomfortable part: on Android there is no dialog to say no to.
