When an argument keeps changing shape, it usually stopped being about the argument a while ago. Someone who treats a position as part of who they are will experience a lost point as a lost self, and the mind responds the way it responds to any threat. The example changes, then the standard of proof changes, then the person across the table becomes the topic, and finally the tone of the conversation gets graded instead of its content. Every one of those moves protects standing, and none of them tests the idea.
I've come to think this explains most of why online debate feels so slippery. Both people believe they're arguing about the subject, but one of them is defending a position that has been quietly fused with their identity, and you can't dislodge it with evidence because the evidence is aimed at the wrong target.
The practical answer is to find the one principle underneath everything you've said, state it plainly, and keep returning to it without heat. Examples can come and go, but a principle either gets answered or it doesn't. If it doesn't, you've learned something, and so has everyone reading along

Yeah this is actually one of the reasons I even discovered Bitcoin. I was looking for the best way to protect the wealth I did get to keep so I could focus on my actual job. But you're right that more than just money is taken. My body is being unnecessarily rekt and so is my mind, even though I don't spend as much time on trying to protect myself from inflation. A part of us is still being extracted by an unproductive area of the system.
I think this issue would improve greatly with an actual free market. Regulation (health and insurance), CON laws, etc make it difficult to compete in every area I know of. The primary option for many of us is to leave the industry. Brain drain.
People like Michael Burry come to mind. Wasn't Saylor an engineer? The incentives are to do financial nonsense. Nothing against those two, just using them as examples.

There's a plurality of paths. We have free will to choose the path. But the paths and their destinations are happening, have since been happening, and will happen again. It's easier to wrap my head around it when I think of it as fractal in nature, the same way a hologram contains the full image in each particle of the image.
