At approximately 2026-May-15 13:44 UTC, #asteroid #2026JN4 impacted Earth's atmosphere shortly after discovery. The 1m-wide rock was not a threat. That rise & set view is now much anticipated, but was first captured by total surprise on Apollo 8 in 1968. Unlike a solar eclipse viewed from Earth, they are close to the Moon so it appears much larger than the Sun in their perspective. Without Earth's atmosphere around them, there is potential for very clear view of the solar corona during totality. #Artemis #Moon🌖 #Orion #space

Similar reflectors left on the Moon by Apollo astronauts allow scientists to measure distance to the Moon to the millimeter. Same use for GPS satellites will reduce error in their estimated trajectory, and improve #positioning, #navigation & #timing #PNT derived from them. https://hackaday.com/2026/03/29/laser-ranging-makes-gps-satellites-more-accurate/ #GNSS #satellite #space
