Greetings TerraKeepers!

It’s time for our monthly update and newsletter from TerraKeepers and our pilot project in El Diviso, with the Kofán Indigenous community.

I’ve been talking a lot about bamboo, about the work crew and their skills. Now I feel called to share with you what I call “behind the scenes.”

As we all know, nothing in this world, the biggest or the smallest, happens unless there’s someone, or a group of people, making it happen. In this case, I want to honor and share the story of one of the young women of the community.

<Leaving to find opportunity>

When I met her, she always talked about how she longed to grow. She didn’t know exactly what. She didn’t know exactly how, but she just knew that there was something more in life for her.

I also learned from this young lady, in a conversation a while ago, that she was thinking of moving to the closest city with her 1-year-old to work as a supermarket clerk and, if possible, study administration in a small diploma or something like that. When I asked her if that’s what she really wanted to do, she said, “Of course not! I would much rather be with my family, have my son with grandma and grandpa, with me, with his cousins, and be with my sister, with my family. I love being here, but, Jose, when necessity demands, I might have to leave.”

I had heard this before. During my first visit in September 2023, Taita Alberto told me that once their youth leave, chances are they will not come back to live here.

This is the cycle so many Indigenous communities are living: the youth leave to find opportunity, and they don’t come back.

<Where there’s a will, there’s a way.>

At the same time, during my visit just over a year ago to set up the bamboo curing facility, in the last days of my stay, I realized we had opened pandoras box in terms of the amount of new tasks, jobs and responsibilities for me and the community.

By setting up that bamboo curing facility, we now had a team that was going to be operating it. This team would need supplies and materials restocked, suppliers paid, and training stipends. The stipends allow the youth, men, and women to dedicate their time to learning this skill while still covering their basic needs.

Of course, I knew that I could not do this from afar. I could do many things from afar, but not this type of management.

That’s when I had one of those eureka moments that keep happening throughout this project. There’s a problem, a constraint, or a challenge, then a new piece of information arrives, and magic happens. That’s why I’m so passionate about this project, because it just keeps bringing so much goodness into my life and into the lives of those impacted by the work we do at TerraKeepers.

I told her, “So you want to learn admin, right? Is that correct?”

“Yes.”

“You know that now there’s a small bamboo factory in your village, yes? We need somebody to take care of its admin: restocking the materials, letting me know when I need to order supplies from Bogotá, gasoline, or parts that break, so the whole operation keeps running. We also need somebody to make sure each member learning this skill receives their weekly stipend.”

“Do you want to do this?”

I still remember with so much tenderness how she said, “Jose, how in the world am I going to do this? I have no experience. That’s why I wanted to go and learn.”

I told her, “Look, I didn’t know how to do any of what you’ve seen happening here either, but when there is a will, there is a way. If you have the will, the way is there, and you can count on me to support you in making this possible.”

In that moment, she became the admin of the operation on the ground, exactly as I’ve always envisioned it: run by the community itself. I could “easily” have gotten somebody from outside the community with a lot of admin and project management experience, yet it would not make the impact that we’re looking to make with TerraKeepers.

<From WhatsApp to an iPad>

Slowly, slowly, through WhatsApp, we were able to stay in touch and continue the operations. I can tell you there were so many moments where it was very challenging: because of cultural differences, sense of urgency/deadlines, and also because of technology.

Speaking of technology, this is something I’m very passionate about in this project: how can technology be used in service of the highest? Not with the fear that we often see in the news or on social media about all the horrors and all the bad things of technology. I believe it’s a tool, and when it’s used with the right purpose, intention, and guidance, it can do a huge amount of good.

We cannot disregard technology just because it’s uncertain, just because it’s fast, just because of the bad things that happen with it. I believe the question is: how can we take these tools and use them with deep purpose and intentionality, in a way that impacts our human life experience in the most positive way?

In order to comply with our 501(c)(3) status, we have to have records of all the payments, purchases, stipends, and movements of our donors’ money into this humanitarian project.

As I was guiding this young lady to learn how to take a picture, how to upload it to a certain app, and how to start taking notes and sending me messages about the purchases, it was obviously overwhelming. Even as I write this, I can feel how overwhelming it was, because there were so many small movements and paper receipts. Sometimes there were not even receipts, and I knew I had to improve the systems.

By my next field visit in December, with the support of our visionary partners and donors, we were able to donate an iPad so she could start using Excel, which she also had no idea how to use. We created very simple Excel sheets. She was filling them in slowly, and she was doing okay. She did mention many times that it was overwhelming to use Excel, and it still felt complicated.

The important thing is that she was getting comfortable with the iPad, being connected to the internet, being able to ask questions, and being able to document, take pictures, and start to organize this whole operation a little bit. Just a big-picture reminder: we’re building more than 1,000 m² of infrastructure in the middle of the Amazon, and that requires a lot of tools, a lot of materials, a lot of payments, and a lot of organization.

<Tejido>

From this moment I started to have the idea of creating an app, because AI has become a big part of how I create, operate, and run TerraKeepers as an organization. I wondered what would become possible if I built one to support the community. I was thinking about an app that starts to integrate AI in a way that is relevant for their needs, that is bringing and sparking sovereignty and empowerment, not distraction.

I heard the name: weaving, tejido, because there are so many parts of this project that have to come together:

the bamboo curing

the bamboo building

the education

the natural building

in the future, agriculture

circular economy

energy

All these pillars, all these different ecosystems, come together in the community and through the project.

Through AI, I was able to create our app “Tejido”. We created a profile for this young lady, and through this app, she’s been able to:

do her weekly and monthly accounting

register any payments and any stipends

attach images of the receipts for all the movements

make notes

do an intentional weekly review of what’s working and what’s not, so I can follow along and we keep improving, without flooding WhatsApp

Without leaving her community
Just recently, I was talking to her, and I told her, “Do you realize how incredible it is that you did not have to leave your community to go live in a city far from your family to learn administration from a generic (and, with all due respect, probably not great) administration course? To learn administration in a way that is practical, that is applicable to the needs of your community, without dwelling too much on theory, but straight into it!”

I’m so proud of the work she’s been doing, but of course this is just the beginning, because where their community is heading is toward:

-creation of a circular economy prototype with BTC

-a whole operational bamboo ecosystem and business

-earth blocks factory

-regenerative cacao farming

-their healing retreats with their elders

All of this requires good organization, good admin skills to ensure that the resources are well kept, well invested, and well distributed, to ensure that the quality controls exist, and to ensure that the work that has been done has a deep, meaningful impact in the community.

What are the next steps with her? Now she has a weekly class on the app that allows her to keep learning how to make orders, how to negotiate better prices, and how to organize herself better. She also has what we call an assistant, which is an AI bot she can ask questions about the accounting she has to do, or about whatever topic is related to her ecosystem.

This is exactly what is happening with this pilot project in the community, because to be able to do this at this level of precision and scale without technology, we would have needed so much more external hands-on help. Right now, we’re able to deploy this project in a way that, from the beginning, is building skills, building responsibility, and building ownership from within.

The crew kept building
She is not the only one. In our last newsletter, I shared how the youth had been able to build and grow the skills that now allow them to continue the work (even when their lead teacher and supervisor took some weeks off). Upon his return, he mentioned to me in a call that he was very happy to see how seriously they took the responsibility of continuing the work, and the progress they kept making even in his absence.

By no means am I saying they’re ready to take off and lead their own bamboo projects, because, as I’ve also shared many other times, slowly, slowly, but surely takes you further. There is still a journey ahead over the next 12 months, as they continue developing their bamboo skills, their leadership skills, their design skills, and their bamboo transformation skills, with the idea that, 12 months from now, they can continue doing this work without us.

<Two ways to be part of it>

One more thing before I go.

The matching donation is still open, and we have $70,000 left to complete it. Every sat or dollar you give while it lasts arrives as two, which means $70,000 becomes $140,000 for this work. This is what keeps the sustainable infrastructure operations running in El Diviso: the bamboo work, and soon the earth block factory.

Our 21 original paintings are also still available. Every painting sold goes to fund the agriculture work, as the community reclaims its agricultural sovereignty and returns to land that feeds itself.

If her story moves you, you can be part of it here:

Matching donation: https://app.zaprite.com/org/cmrb8nyeh000b04jp5s5fti48/paymentLinks/pl_H3mij5XvYL
The 21 paintings: https://art.terrakeepers.org/21-originals

Thank you for walking this road with us.

We are the Giveback Generation.

Blessings until next month.

The Kofán community in the Colombian Amazon now runs on their own power.

30 kW off grid. Panels, batteries, inverters. Theirs.

This started on a beach in Costa Rica.

Bitcoin Freedom Fest. I met a guy named cuddy (nprofile…ujaq) . We shared values about sovereignty, BTC and freedom.

I told him about a community in the jungle. He wanted to see it.

In December he came.

Brad during his visit to El Diviso Kofán Community in the Colombian Amazon.

While he was there the power went out. 24 hours during his visit, and five more days after he flew home.

That is normal there. Not an hour. Days. Because somebody has to walk into the jungle and find which pole fell.

And every time, the food in the fridge is gone. The fish somebody spent all morning catching in the river is gone. Days of work, gone.

Sovereignty is not sovereignty if someone else can turn it off.

On his last day Brad looked at me and said, I do not know how, but we are getting this community electricity.

He went home to Texas and took it to his company, Cholla, where he runs the Bitcoin mining side. Cholla funded the system. GivePower installed it.

No grant cycle. No RFP. No twelve month review committee.

A conversation on a beach, a guy who came to see for himself, and a company that said yes.

That is the school. At night. Lights on.

Then GivePower told us they needed a room for the batteries and controllers.

The community built it out of bamboo they cut across their own river.

GivePower said they had never had their equipment housed in a bamboo structure before.

The panels came from outside. The building protecting them came from the community, from their own land, by their own hands, using a skill they did not have twelve months ago.

Next, we put the excess to work.

Canaan is donating miners. What they earn goes into a fund the community holds for the upkeep of the system itself. Panels cleaned, batteries replaced, parts repaired, paid for by the system instead of by a donor.

A donated system that pays for its own maintenance does not need somebody to come back and rescue it every year.

We already run wages on Bitcoin rails into that community. This is the next piece.

This is what this network does when somebody actually shows up.

Learn more and DM if you have ideas or want to get involved!
www.terrakeepers.org

We are the Giveback Generation.

Zaps go straight to the ground in El Diviso.

Bitcoiners, Nostr family. I want to show you what this network is capable of.

A little over a year ago, I shared a vision here on Primal: building real sovereignty alongside an Indigenous medicine community in the Colombian Amazon. A few Bitcoin angels answered the call. Their sats started everything. To this day, most of this work is funded and deployed through Bitcoin rails, from the first donation to the field. (thank you paulinthejungle (nprofile…ypuv) for sharing our project)

Here is what that call became in one year. A deep-water well, more than 50 meters down. More than 20 youth trained in bamboo and natural building, and with their own hands they cured and processed over 4,000 bamboo pieces, raised more than 1,000 square meters of community space, and just finished a 30 kW off-grid solar system. Soon the mining equipment arrives, and this community will be mining sats deep in the jungle, powered by their own sun. And the school is running again. Btw did I mention that the school teacher has been learning from myfirstbitcoin (nprofile…2hav) so he can teach the community about BTC!

That is the magnitude of what happens when this community follows a call. And the next one is the biggest yet.

Food is the next system. Without food, there is no sovereignty.

To fund it, we chose reciprocity.

Nala is a Bitcoiner and an artist. For TerraKeepers she painted 21 originals. Hand-painted mandalas finished in gold, many with Bitcoin at the center. Each one is the only one of its kind.

This is not a donation. It's an exchange. You receive sacred art, painted with intention, that will live in your home. El Diviso receives a community bio-factory, seeds, and the expert accompaniment that lets each family grow its own food on its own land.

The rippling goes two ways. Every time you look at your painting, you're reminded that the good of your support is still rippling, as food for the next generation.

The goal: place all 21 by September 21, so the 12-month regenerative agriculture process begins this season.

See them: https://terrakeepers.org/21-originals

Can't own one? Repost this. You already proved what happens when this network moves. Your repost might be the reason a family eats from its own land next year.

Proof of work, not promises.

GM Primal familia 🌍⚡️

We want to share something powerful that only could’ve happened here—with you, with primal (nprofile…s4lk) , and with the decentralized magic of this aligned network.

Back in April, at the Primal house in Uvita, Costa Rica, I had a conversation with paulinthejungle (nprofile…j7tk) . I told him we were about to launch a new TerraKeepers campaign. I shared my truth: this community—Bitcoiners, Nostr creators, Primal pioneers—are the real ones when it comes to sovereignty, resilience, and resource reallocation rooted in values.

We launched the campaign. paulinthejungle (nprofile…j7tk) reshared it.
And then... it happened.

A conscious capital fund reached out. After a few potent conversations, they agreed to match every donation up to 1 BTC.
But here’s the real spark: within days, not only did they commit to back us—they sent a first $12,000 donation upfront so the project could take off immediately, because they understood the urgency on the ground.

This wasn’t a promise. This was action.
This is what happens when aligned individuals channel resources with precision and heart.

Just a few weeks ago, I met miljan (nprofile…ea5p) in person at BTCPrague (npub167n…zu3r) and told him straight up:
This wouldn’t have happened on any other platform.
Legacy social media is distortion.
Primal is clarity. Signal. Community.

So here’s a reminder, fam:
Decentralized tech is not just code. It’s a frequency. A mirror of a new world being birthed.
When you bring aligned vision, regenerative purpose, and honest work to the table—this community shows up.

This is just the beginning.
And we’ll prove what’s possible when tools like Primal help redirect wealth to the roots of wisdom.

Big love to the Primal team and every visionary walking this path with us.
Let’s keep building the Giveback Generation.

Much love josereynoso (npub1e34…zwlc)
