Recently I learned about TouchMapper: Create tactile maps easily for any address.

They use #OpenStreetMap to create printable 3D models of an area, for people with no/bad vision to literally get a feel for the place.

I love the initiative!

As for non-EU software in the same category, Procreate is from Australia. GIMP originates from the US, but as it's Open Source and developed by a wide range of developers, I don't know if it's fair to put it in the list as "from the USA".

Is it necessary to get so specific? I mean, Blender is also used for 3D printing, medical visualisation, and pizza designing, just to name a few examples. It's definitely not limited to filmmaking.

Do other people feel the same? I find it incredibly frustrating when a project on GitHub starts to automatically mark & close issues when they're "stale". Usually this means that after a month of silence, the issue is automatically closed.

Do the devs really expect me to write "this is still an issue" every 30 days? Does that actually help anybody?

I didn't think that, but I love how serious & thorough ...

I've moved!

I've switched accounts, from mastodon.art to fosstodon.org. Of course any moderator of a Mastodon instance is free to block whatever other instance they want. That's part of the job. One decision they recently made, made me no longer really feel at home there, though.

So now I'm on my new home at fosstodon.org. Mastodon is awesome like that! Freedoms all around, including moving somewhere else.
