Found a note in my pocket that reads “earth won’t keep the corpse and neither will the sea.” On the upside, it’s my handwriting. On the downside, I have no recollection of writing this. Um… lil help? I’m really hoping someone will be like “oh that’s the line from such and such song or play or movie” or something, and that will at least give me a lead.

So this sorta just keeps getting darker the further you read: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2026/04/more-than-half-of-all-long-shot-bets-on-polymarket-pay-off/

Lesson: the one justification for "prediction markets" is a scam, the perverse incentives and moral hazard for corruption immense, and if a state actor hasn't yet figured out a way to milk these to start predicting major US/EU/UK/Israeli military actions, I can't believe they won't soon.

Hey All: Yiddish Kabbalt Shabbat this Friday!

If you are around Ann Arbor and interested in Jew stuff, it'll be a lot of klezmer and singing with extra glottal fricatives, and free eats to follow. Bring something to share, minding that the building is vegetarian and nut-free.

DETAILS:
• March 27 at 6:30pm at the JCC of Ann Arbor (2935 Birch Hollow Dr, Ann Arbor, MI 48108)
• Vegetarian and Nut-Free Potluck to Follow

I'll assume no one here lives under a rock, and thus you all already know that the only and oldest synagogue in Jackson, Mississippi was torched over the weekend, destroying their library and two Torahs.

Folks not in the Tribe might not appreciate what that means: every Torah is hand scribed on hide. Each takes a year to make and costs more than a car. Many have been used for hundreds of years. These are artifacts that are often both older than this country and still used on a weekly basis.

My story "The Nölmyna" made it into reactormag (npub1p3a…0wvk)'s 2025 highlights ebook. I always love these, because I'm much more of a Kindle/paper reader than a phone/tablet reader. But I super love it this year, because I'm vain and I'm included (also dope to be a TOC-mate with AC Wise and Ruthanna Emrys). On the surface, I was tempted to say that given the date it was just generic anti-papist propaganda. But poking around further, it seems like images of nuns collecting or hiding discorporate penises was sort of a standard joke worked into illuminations and such. Here's one of nuns collecting the fruit of the dicktree that dates from ~1300:

So here is something potentially silly that I use most days, either on their mobile app on their site (or both): https://mynoise.net/

I think it's maybe entirely free to use on the site, but I pay anyway, because I sorta love everything about it.

I like JFS. They work with Food Gatherers for a goodly portion of what they distribute, but then supplement that with Kosher/Halal and medically/culturally appropriate options. They also handle a ton of distribution (delivering food to folks who can't pickup, etc.):

So, U-M has a Maize and Blue Cupboard food pantry to support students struggling with food insecurity. You'd be *shocked* how fucking hard it is to figure out how to write them a goddamn check. Like, I have to call Monday and talk to a human to get this done. 🤦‍♀️ I went to this damned university, and yet every day they seem to come up with a new and interesting way to encourage me to sorta hate them.

OPPORTUNITY TO HELP THINGS SUCK LESS:

Owing to the gov't shutdown, Michigan has to stop issuing SNAP ("food stamps") as of Nov 1. Here in Washtenaw Co (4th richest county in the state, tied for first in housing costs) ~9% of households rely on SNAP.

Food pantries are already strained. More folks show up every day. JFS runs the only pantry here that provides medically/culturally appropriate options (low-glycemic, Halal, Kosher, etc.) Give them money. Feed our peeps:

So, I live under a rock and don't get out much or look at the socials or anything. Can someone fill me in on what's happening with Netflix prices? I'm looking at my CC statements, and I see that the price jumped in February by ~$2.50 (which I expected, b/c they warned me), and then jumped again this month by an additional $4, which I never saw any warning of, and can't even seem to find reported anywhere.
