Hi, I've updated most of the OpenJDK ports for FreeBSD to the latest upstream version, which also includes the fixes for the vulnerable eMudhra CA certificates.

The following versions are available in ports, both in latest and the last quarterly branch:

java/openjdk27 has been updated to version 27.0.1.0.2.java/openjdk25 has been updated to version 25.0.5.0.2.java/openjdk21 has been updated to version 21.0.13.0.2.java/openjdk17 has been updated to version 17.0.21.0.2.
OpenJDK 8 and 11 are still to be done.

I would encourage anyone running services on OpenJDK on FreeBSD to upgrade after testing the new versions. Though I don't expect any issues, I have not had as much time to test these versions as much as I normally do.

Please note that java/openjdk26 has not been updated, but rather deprecated as it is no longer maintained by the OpenJDK project. Since it's missing the CA certificate fixes, it will expire already on 2026-12-01. Anyone still on OpenJDK 26 is encouraged to upgrade to OpenJDK 27, or if possible OpenJDK 25 which is the latest LTS version.

Please file any issues you have with the updated ports in the FreeBSD bug tracker. Thanks!

Thanks to the @FreeBSD Foundation for supporting my work on OpenJDK for FreeBSD, and to Greg Lewis and Kurt Miller for helping with this release.

#openjdk #freebsd #security #mywork

I'm really happy to announce that I've qualified for a grant from @NLnet and their @NGI Zero open source funding programme for implementing performance profiling for Hubzilla, and to improve the Superblock addon! These are projects that has been pushed around for some time already, but thanks to NLnet I can now afford to set of the required time to get this out of the way.

This work will help us understand and fix performance issues both during development/testing and in production. The work on the Superblock addon will improve it to gain modern moderation features required by the fediverse today.

Hubzilla is a fediverse platform with a strong focus on owning and controlling your own data. It is one of the longest running active projects in the fediverse, and has pioneered features like cross-site authentication, nomadic identity, comment controls and granular permissions enforced by the server. With functionality way beyond mere sharing of status updates and posts, Hubzilla is an extensible platform that aims to be a more complete home on the web.

#hubzilla #fediverse #nlnet #ngi0 #funding

Enjoying a break between the screenings at Ravenheart International Fantastic Film Festival. Quite lot of good films and shorts so far. Reid🥫🏁 I think the reason many perceive the fediverse as more complex is because they think of it in the same terms as the old-fashioned centralized social media. Once we start thinking of it in terms of the web the complexity disappears. At least in my mind. The fediverse is just a thin layer on top of the web that allows different websites to exchange social interactions with each other.
