It feels hard to justify yeeting Meta into the sun when running an online business, but I'm building an increasingly solid case that their supposed reach and monopoly on attention simply don't inure to the benefit of most businesses or creators any more, thus nullifying all claimed advantages. I look forward to the day when I can confidently pull the plug on their entire rotten ecosystem and know the business will remain healthy.

There's a dust-up over an AI ad from Bookshop.org. But they didn't use AI; Meta's ad platform automatically created an AI "variation" of the original, non-AI content.

I went to disable this crap in our Shiraki Press ad account, and got served a popup *demanding a reason why*.

Fuck Meta for this. Consent matters. We've just pulled all paid advertising from their platforms.

I'm starting to see more and more very long posts from users at wordpress.com, which is fine as far as it goes, but they suck in the app because they're like eleven screens long. Is there some setting that could detect and truncate over-length posts, or alternatively a way to filter (NOT block) posts from the domain?

(These are not people I follow; they land in my feed because of followed hashtags. Content is fine; only length is an issue.)

I've been cross-posting to both Bluesky and Mastodon for a few months now, and this comparison is pretty emblematic of how that's been going:

Masto: 40 total interactions
Bluesky: Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

Numbers aren't everything, but this is an observable pattern that tells a very different story than the one I keep seeing in "mainstream" discourse.
