a pair of Bush Stone-curlews are breeding next to our garage. they are tending two eggs that are due to hatch in a fortnight. in the meantime there is always one sitting on them and another keeping guard. i'm told that they swap roles, but its hard to tell since they look the same. there is no organised nest, but they must be good parents-to-be since they've endured storms and the attention of kookaburra, water-dragon, and the occasional dog. #australia #wildlife #bird

Lossock Ridge inside Seven Hills Bushland Reserve is currently alive with a grove of flowering Brisbane Wattles (Acacia fimbriata). Like other acacia species nearby, they take their turn when deciding to flower. I guess there are advantages to such inter-species cooperation. this very large Forest Red Gum (E. tereticornis) in the #SevenHillsBushlandReserve toppled over in wild and wet weather last year. a council arborist cut the trunk (it was horizontal) and then skilfully levered the stock back into its cavity. now, months later, it has sprouted new growth. our bushcare group thought we'd lost this magnificent tree but were gratified to see it live on.

one of the nice things about bushcare is discovering exquisite wildlife. we all stopped work to appreciate this damselfly - a Common Flatwing (Austroargiolestes icteromelas) as it settled nearby. it helped that one of the volunteers was an entomologist with a good camera! #SevenHillsBushlandReserve #Brisbane #insect
