My biggest fear was Trump and/or Putin – and worse if it's the EU! – was preferring a strong man again over the mess that is democracy. But it seemed weird that DW wouldn't be attuned to that, they're usually pretty good. But not always, especially if the German government wants to go some way.

I can't promise but it is a sword and we need to use it. Startups aren't always talking about regulation but we all want this.

She also wants regulation to get some of the $300B/year invested into German pensions (incl. by me!) to go into VC, some fraction of a percent is now. Easily fixable without too much risk! #digitalSovereignty

At lunch, we discussed how the proposed delay of enforcement of the #AIAct is a consequence of allowing the centralisation of enforcement in the EC. While an understandable response to the GDPR enforcement issues, but neither a smart nor the best one. Centralising power facilitates regulatory capture.

Well, unless you look at the #climateCrisis; it's possible large-scale tech innovation will end within 30 years or so & AI started in the 1950s. Still some standard lines – not enough "growth financing" after you've started up, not enough people who can work on the whole value chain. Everyone says the EU has so much money and savings, & we need to put more of it into getting companies to IPO. I worry there's to much focus on "exits," and not enough appreciation of a cozy, stable blanket of long-term webs of SMEs.
