Every afternoon, he would come to each of our labs and remind us to knock off for a half hour or so. About 45 minutes later, he would come by with a fresh pot of coffee and invite us back to his office where he had opened a new bag of chocolate chip cookies (yes, new daily). He would ask us what worked that day, what didn’t, and what we were planning for the upcoming days. This was in 1978.
