The police and army eventually left. The relatives of the driver arrived and took the car. The young Palestinians who had stopped to help also left, and we left.

Nobody will investigate. There will be 0 consequence for the settlers who were behind the attack. If a Palestinian teenager had done the same, the entire area would have been on lockdown, nearby villages would have been searched, and many people would have been detained.

A few minutes later, the army showed up. They also inspected the vehicles and asked a few questions. At no point, either the police or the army wrote down what happened to investigate and find the perpetrators of the attack.

But they asked for our IDs and took photos of them.

The young guys were waiting for a relative of the driver to come pick up the car. Though we couldn't do anything and all they were doing was waiting on the side of road, they asked us to stay.

Less than 5 minutes later, the Israeli police showed up in a militarized vehicle.

We filmed them, just to be safe, as they inspected the vehicle and asked the Palestinians some questions. They told us to stop, that we were not allowed to film them. This isn't true but we complied because we didn't want to escalate the situation for no reason. They checked our IDs.

We went and met a few young Palestinians who had stopped to help the driver. The driver had already been taken away by an ambulance. They told us settlers threw stones at the car, beat up the driver, and then poured sand into his engine.

The first thing I noticed when I got into the West Bank, compared to last year, is thousands of Israeli flags lining up the sides of every major road. Before, you'd only ("only" of course) see Israeli flags at checkpoints, around military basis, or in settlements.

After a bit of research I learnt that it started as an initiative of a 19 year old from the settlement of Ariel, who wanted to show that the entire West Bank ("Judea and Samaria") belongs to the Jews.

I'm still in Harabat al Naibi.

Around 6am, like every morning around that time, a few settlers walked their flock of sheeps just down the hill. They come 3-4 times a day. Most of the time, there are no incident, but at times they get closer, even walking their sheeps into the hamlet. They are looking for "friction": to provoke a reaction from residents so they can attack them or call the army. Luckily, nothing of the sort today.

This protest was important because the murderer is actually facing indictment, which is pretty rare: 94% of cases of settler violence against Palestinians are not prosecuted. So this was about showing Israel that people are still paying attention.

This is a small group and still I knew 6-7 people in that crowd--which is pretty telling about how small the community of Israeli activists is.

I'm in Palestine Israel.

Before going into the West Bank, I stopped in Jerusalem to attend a protest in front of the prosecutor's office to demand accountability for Awdah Hathaleen.

Awdah was a community leader in the village of Umm al Khair. He was murdered (on camera) last year by a settler from the settlement of Carmel. I met him once in 2024, he was the sweetest, most non-violent person you can imagine.

Settlers from Carmel have long harassed residents from Umm Al Khair to push them to leave their land so the settlement can expand. The murderer is still free and last year, when I was in Umm Al Khair just weeks after the murder, he was already roaming around just meters from where he killed Awdah.
