So many leftists react like this to any new technology and it's honestly dangerous. I've heard so many people say things like "it's a bubble, it'll burst soon" or "people will reject it in a grand Butlerian Jihad" with regards to AI. What if that doesn't happen? Because these people essentially don't take it seriously and think it'll just go away, they don't make plans on how to deal with it and just cede these technologies entirely to the right. And they have plans on how to use these technologies, certainly not for the average person's benefit.

I guess the question is then, what should workers threatened by automation do? If they fight against automation like the ILA just did, are they reactionary? Should they be have a position like, "we're okay with automation just as long as we get the profits from it?" Or are they just wrong and they're not actually threatened by automation?

And to be honest, I think it kind of sucks that it's like this. If we take the strictest possible definition of degrowth possible and say that it's just "critic[ism] of the concept of growth in gross domestic product as a measure of human and economic development," I would certainly agree with it, as I think most leftists would. The problem is, according to degrowthers, it's never just that sentence from the Wikipedia article. They always have to include a bunch of other wacky beliefs, like being anti-nuclear, doing actual nature worship, or that whole "slow living" thing (not saying that those last 2 are wrong or bad, but that I've seen degrowthers who have argued they're important parts of the ideology). I've seen a few who are explicitly anti-transhumanist and say (derisively, somehow) that transhumanism is a "Star Trek future" or that FALGSC isn't desirable, let alone achievable.

It's not about money, it's about power and control.
