Phone as source: do Bluetooth codec and sample-rate settings actually change what you hear?

For the last few months my only source has been a mid-range Android phone (Snapdragon 6-series, Android 14): a USB-C dongle at the desk, Bluetooth earbuds on the move. I keep going back and forth on whether the codec and sample-rate settings change anything I can actually hear, and I have run out of ways to fool myself.
Rough notes from the same two pairs (a ~$80 TWS set, plus wired IEMs through the dongle):
SBC vs AAC vs aptX on the same 16/44.1 track: AAC sounded slightly smeared on...

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/phone-as-source-do-bluetooth-codec-and-sample-rate-settings-actually-change-what-you-hear.74123/

#hear #phone #aac #snapdragon #sbc

#rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit

Fiio DM13 Review (Portable CD Player) (NTTY)

Hello Everyone,
This is a review and detailed measurements of the Fiio DM13 portable CD player.
!!!EDIT 9 Sept 2026!!!: @FIIO Official provided me with a new firmware and it resolves many of the issues I reported a year and half ago. I updated this review accordingly, leaving the old text Strike-Through and updating in blue.
Fiio DM13 - Presentation
I'm not sure I need to provide an extensive presentation as...

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/fiio-dm13-review-portable-cd-player-ntty.60621/
https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?attachments/fiiodm13-001-jpg.426644/

#ntty #player #portable #review #fiio #helloeveryone #fiioofficial #presentation #edit #sept

#rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit

Why are you still buying expensive premium gears when cheap stuff does the same

A $200 DAC can do almost everything you want in a common playback system. Amplifiers that have enough power and distortion cost less and less, too. Why spend $1K on IEMs when a random Chinese brand can almost outperform most of them under $50? Expensive streamers, CD transport and DAPs are well proved that they can do nothing more. Maybe expensive headphones and speakers can prove them well deserved but there are also many cheap ones performs greatly. ASR can help so many people save a...

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/why-are-you-still-buying-expensive-premium-gears-when-cheap-stuff-does-the-same.47289/

#amplifiers

#rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit

      Wikipedia vs AI

I've sent a small donation every year to Wikipedia for many years now. I believed it to be a valued asset for looking up information on a wide variety of topics and as somewhat a replacement for having a now way obsolete set of encyclopedias since I long ago thru my last Britannica set in the garbage. Today I received my yearly request for a new donation and believe I will send them my usual $25 but this has got me to thinking. The email I received discussed the fact that they are...

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/wikipedia-vs-ai.73949/
