It's been just over two weeks since I badgered my shrink to supply me with HSV antivirals for my Ménière's disease and I've not had one serious episode since the second day. As a reminder, I'd been getting "lie down and close my eyes because that's literally all I can do to stop the vertigo" episodes roughly every two days for two months prior.

Apparently it's important to do this protocol within two years of getting Ménière's or it's less effective. And it doesn't seem to work for younger cases (it's considered idiopathic - of unknown origin and just a set of symptoms, so there can be multiple causes).

This is not a scientific study, IANAD, etc. But it seems to work for me.

So I've just been diagnosed with ADHD aged 60, having been able to mask it as a child on account of being "gifted" and having a very protective big sister. This delayed the diagnosis because usually the score is higher as a child, whereas I had to confront reality later.

Is there any specific stuff out there to help someone my age in managing it etc? I'm due to see my shrink again in a month to possibly look at meds, so feedback on how all that works would be useful too.

We concentrated on a more pressing matter this session, once she's explained the diagnosis, so didn't get a chance to go into any detail about how to manage it and maybe be less dispersed in my thinking.

So, basically, this is all new to me (apart from the social anxiety, PTSD, crap coping mechanisms etc). It's also coming as I'm separating with my wife after 35 years, so it's possibly a good time to try to get on top of this. 🙏

So, I guess the diagnosis is in. But I mainly badgered her about something else...

I came along with my trusty printout of herpes simplex antivirals for Méniére's disease. She ended up giving me a prescription and I'll see her again in a month. Plus blood tests etc.

Cost me over €120 though, because it wasn't for a known pathology treated by the antivirals. Ouch. And it either works or it doesn't, I'll soon find out...

The British Medical Journal (BMJ) reports that during the COVID vaccine rollout in 2021, US health officials used a safety-monitoring algorithm that they knew was inadequate but ignored the problem.

At the time, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) compared reports of adverse events after each vaccine with reports after other vaccines. But by 2021 more than 90 per cent of reports were about the (very similar) mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. Because of this, adverse events which occured for both vaccines would not have statistically stood out.

The BMJ extracted this information from internal emails it obtained under the Freedom of Information Act. These emails reveal that FDA employees Ana Szarfman and statistician William DuMouchel warned Peter Marks (then the FDA’s vaccine regulator) about this problem in early 2021. They proposed an improved method, but higher FDA administration ignored the warning.

As a consequence, the algorithm failed to flag myocarditis (an inflammation of the heart muscle), which was later found to be a side-effect of mRNA vaccination.

My GP couldn't give me the antivirals to try to attenuate the Ménière's disease, but she gave me the details of the top experts in France. Either they give me the drugs or I get my shrink to do it, as it appears to be linked to stress. Why is it so hard to get drugs that could possibly attenuate the awful quality of life problems with this disease? They don't have serious side effects either. If I get blanked I'm going to have to go to the pharmacy and say I've had a flare up of genital herpes so I can try them...
