Bootc-Broccoli was turned into a Cosmic one by me. I do like Cosmic, but.... If you're always tiling and you like a keyboard driven workflow like me this setup has been surpassed by far with the likes of Dank, Noctalia and Niri (or Mango, my fav). This obviously also applies to tiling Gnome or KDE. The quickshells provide all you could want for. As a floater Cosmic rocks. Bootc broccoli? I see niri and noctalia (and dank) in the generic Fedora repos!
#bootc #bootc-broccoli
https://github.com/thedanangineer/bootc-broccoli

Number one: for you it is more efficient to have all architectures in sync. Very valid point, and you'll spend time on maintaining pkgs, not on syncing architectures. Number two: in more repo's happens everywhere and people can choose even on pkg level what they prefer. For instance: on Slackware I always use your flatpak pkgs. Simply bcs they work for me and I know they're always up to date. I use Alien's Libreoffice, not the Sbo pkg. Etc, etc. So, users have the choice. Fantastic. And then they complain about having too much choice 🤣

With all my explorations going on, it's easy to forget that both my Slackware KDE and Gentoo dwm installs are on the cutting edge of basically everything and just humming along nicely. Through all kernel upgrades and beta software (kde 6.7!) they just work. Amazing tools!

Great about the Slackware install dvd: it doesn't need a network connection to install at first. But it has the right driver anyway 😊 So after install there's always (for me anyway) a xfce session to start tweaking. Later in the process (i.c. after I installed cosmic) I remove that xfce session (and more things). Used that in my last 3 Slackware installs, it works very well.
N4t3R (npub180a…e3he)

Yesterday, when installing the Cosmic spin of about 2 months ago I was later on greeted with more than 300 updates. The Cosmic part of that was relatively small. Since I hadn't added any software yet, it only shows clearly that the fundamentals of the system are very well maintained. And very much up to date! Then again, updating Slackware and its core applications has never left me in a 'broken' state over the last couple of years. That's why I stick around, rock solid!

That was a pretty uneventful affair, which is good. The Cosmic liveslak I tried worked well, a much better experience than before. Furthermore very much up to date, the first patch to version 1 already included. Had only to install grub (included, but not activated) and uninstall some standard liveslak packages. But that goes with every Slackware install, so no biggie. Cosmic-greeter behaves a bit quirky also, but that goes for all Cosmic installs. Next week: tweaking.
#slackware #cosmic

My install instructions for KDE 6 Wayland on FreeBSD have been updated.

First of all I changed the base to KDE and KDE base apps, instead of just a very minimal install. This follows the recommended install by KDE more closely.

Second: the browser of choice has been changed to Vivaldi and I have included a how-to-update the script and make Vivaldi run under FreeBSD.

Which you can apply anywhere on FreeBSD of course ;-)

Thanks to all for the positive feedback!

https://codeberg.org/thesaigoneer/pages/src/branch/main/FreeBSD%20and%20Plasma%206%20install

#freebsd #kde #vivaldi

FreeBSD provides the standard KDE Plasma package, which is the preferred way as recommended by KDE themselves. Nevertheless, you can still uninstall i.e. Discover and Konqueror, which are part of that base package (like I do).
Don't be put off by the inclusion of kde-base-apps in your removal overview, only the relevant parts for that application will be removed. All other apps and libraries will stay put and continue to work.
#freebsd #kde
