La Romana can be a Bitcoin hub 🟠

On Saturday we joined El Este Emprende 2026 (#CREE2026) at the Alianza Juvenil de La Romana, Dominican Republic, for the panel “AI, Money, Bitcoin and Opportunities for the East”, with Carlos Gutiérrez and Ernesto Folch, moderated by Zaidy Mariano.

We talked about the opportunities the region has in tourism, remittances and commerce, and about a clear path: education → adoption → commerce. La Romana welcomes thousands of visitors every year, yet almost no local businesses accept Bitcoin. That’s a real opportunity.

Yesterday we opened El Este Emprende #CREE2026 in La Romana, Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 with the first panel of the day: "AI, Money, Bitcoin and Opportunities for the East."

Our takeaway: La Romana can become one of the Bitcoin hubs of the Dominican Republic. There is a strong entrepreneurial community here, and real opportunities in tourism, remittances and local merchants.

Decentralization seems unnecessary until the day you actually need it.

Several accounts in our community were recently suspended or restricted on social platforms. No drama, no conspiracy — just a reminder: if your audience only lives inside a platform you don't control, you're building on rented land.

When a voice disappears from a feed, nobody gets a notification. The conversation simply goes on without it.

Bitcoin taught us "not your keys, not your coins." The same logic applies to communication: if your identity and your audience depend entirely on one company, they aren't fully yours.

That's why we're here. Nostr gives us an identity based on keys, not accounts — portable across clients, carried by many relays, owned by no one but us.

We'll keep using traditional platforms for reach. But our community now has more than one road home: our website, direct channels, open protocols like Nostr, and meetups in person.
