One of my lovely UK choir friends, David, is dying of cancer. Only very recently diagnosed and way too late for any treatment.

His son (also a lovely friend who started and led our online choir through Lockdown) just posted that the illness progressed even more rapidly than expected. His dad can't respond to messages anymore and is being kept comfortable.

Only a couple of days left at most.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes yesterday. Was kept fully occupied baking the GF vegan cakes which was nice (didn't want to be sad and gloomy about mum). It was also a difficult week, with news of the IDF intercepting the Global Sumud Flotilla in waters off Crete (nowhere near Israel) and essentially kidnapping the humanitarian activists, including a couple of local lads. Broke one of my favourite bowls by dropping it on top of the gas stove top. A fair sized piece fell behind the range where it can stay for all eternity as far as i am concerned. There are still tiny fragments scattered across the stovetop which are going to have to wait till someone visits and they can move the heavy cast iron bits (not sure what they're called).

Also first time wearing something other than a nightie or hospital gown. Managed very loosely tied elastic-waisted shorts and a soft and loose singlet top. Shorts were tricky to get right - loose enough not to be uncomfortable on the surgery site but not so loose they fell down round my ankles while i walked down the main suburban street. Such a relief that they held up ok. 😂

Hard to believe that poor Sidney the kidney would've been receiving his marching orders on this day last week. Anaesthetist gave me a lovely margarita about 7.45am and op started about 8am. Was all finished by noon. Nurse looked up the timeline for me afterwards because i am not able to verify anything beyond the blissy margarita.

Brother made zucchini slice with roast veg and cauli bake.

The slice was made from a DIY mix from Coles neither of us had tried before and came out really nice. Did add some leftover goat cheese but even the base level part was yum.

The baked veg were precut (cherry toms were added in) and the cauli was a frozen mix(also from Coles).

All baked in the oven with enough servings left for a few more meals.

My fellow activists at Rising Tide have been very kind and thoughtful. They videoed a lovely get well message at the last meeting (which i had missed due to the surgery).

They also sent me food (a heap of yummo soups) and the lovely person who dropped it off also brought some flowers from her garden.

Just ate some of the pumpkin and lentil soup - the best thing! Such a gorgeous caring bunch of people.

Slept a little more comfortably last night, still in the recliner (may be best place while healing). Did have the stronger painkiller before bed but otherwise sticking to paracetamol.

Still sore but maybe a bit less stiff. Going slowly and carefully anyway.

Made my own cereal and cuppa, including using a grabber to reach berries on a lower fridge shelf. And got it to the lounge room. Winning!

Want to try a longer walk - 5 minutes today.

Well i saw the surgeon who is really happy with how i'm doing. I will be getting discharged tomorrow afternoon when my brother arrives.

She encouraged me to walk and sit up as much as i can. Plus drink fluids. And i'm allowed to have a shower!

Seen the urologist this morning. Happy with how i'm going. Only thing is low BP - which i've had before talked with my GP about but haven't checked in ages. From their perspective, they've only seen me with stressed out of my brain blood pressure which was way higher. Also not helped by white coat syndrome which i get even at my local GP's..

Still awake. Had a nice bed bath and changed the hospital gown. Had a little supper (half a sanger) and brushed my teeth. Still only panadol.

Won't be a restful night. All the monitoring. BP cuff goes off hourly. Cuffs on the legs (to help blood flow) go off every few minutes. Plus fluids which drip then alarm when they run out. And the nurse comes in hourly to sort stuff as well.

If i'm awake, they want me to do deep breaths plus little coughs hourly too.

So lots going on. Hope 4 snoozes.

Delay in getting me fed and to ICU because the gauze count was off. No phone or food till ICU

So had to go get a CT scan to check the gauze wasn't left in me. Fab news - nope! Then waited for surgeon. All went super well.

And they grabbed me some Hospital food. Nanna nap next.

When i went to my massage therapist yesterday, she did some sound therapy with a Tibetan singing bowl towards the end. It was lovely.

She asked me to imagine my kidneys were golden. And in my imagination, they turned into goldfish (super cute) and later into golden bells (influenced by the sound). Maybe the magic in this lies in turning the brain to happier directions.

Also makes it even more important to name my soon to be sole surviving goldfish kidney. 🤪🤣

Hospital rang me while i was having my post-swim coffee. Nothing major but they did want me to get a blood test before the surgery, today if i could please and only at their preferred pathology provider (Laverty). They emailed me the form.

Unclear why they couldn't have asked earlier so it could've been planned rather than last minute - apparently it's just to get details (like my blood type?) in case i need a blood transfusion.

Anyway, got it done after the massage. 🙄
