But nowadays written works tend to reign supreme because that is how academic work is researched and graded. So there's this elevation of written instructions or stories even in cases where watching someone do it has the potential to convey things even better.<br/><br/>I actually talked to someone about this earlier comparing youtube vids of needlecraft instructions to the way families would have passed down the info to their children before those sorts of things were industrialized. Written patterns, on the other hand, were commonly sold by corporations and individuals started selling their own patterns in a mimicry of that model.
