This one is no Shoebill, but can claim dinosaur good looks as well 🦖 🐦‍⬛ The Smooth-billed Ani ~ I can’t think of ani-thing more unique than that bird’s beak! 😃 Sadly, Smooth-billed Anis are considered to be the most damaging bird species in Galapagos; two examples being predating on local biodiversity, including endemic finch nestlings and dispersing the seeds of invasive plant species. However, the anis were not to blame ~ they were intentionally introduced by local farmers who mistakenly believed the black cuckoo-like birds would eat cattle ticks and they do ... but not enough to put a dent in a tick infestation 🪳 🐦‍⬛ These social birds are known for their synchronized grooming sessions, where they preen each other's feathers to keep their sleek, glossy look ... kinda like teen-age girls! 🤣 🐦‍⬛

This was a surprise for me today at ASL class. Our teacher, Emma, is the daughter of a friend. Mom says Emma was so taken with me and my enthusiasm for her class that she wanted to do something special.

She's a good kid. Yeah, kid. She just turned 17 and is brighter than a lot of adults I know. And such a sweetheart!

Okay, been meaning to do this for a long time, but I'm a big old chicken-shit.

The reason I have such difficulty walking is because I have bilateral drop foot. Basically, the muscles in the front part of each foot are wonky and I have (had!) trouble lifting my feet up. Lots of foot dragging and tripping through the years.

Two of the diagnoses were peroneal nerve injury and lumbar radiculopathy. Because of the nerve injury, I used to wear braces. (I hated them). It is thought the damage was caused by an ankle fracture when I was 12 (I don't buy it cuz that was only 1 ankle). The radiculopathy is established, because of all the issues with my back. Pinched nerves, herniated and bulging discs and a handful of compression fractures. Thoracic and lumbar. Also, degenerative disc disease, facet joint disease, spinal stenosis and arthritis.

The good news is because of all the work I've been doing, the severity of the drop foot has lessened quite a bit. I have to concentrate but I can lift my feet now and walk much better. There is no cure for this. And because of the cumulative reasons for the issues, I've opted for exercise, pain management and a walking aide. If you can believe it, a PURPLE walker! It embarrassed me for the longest time, but ya do what ya gotta do.

So there's the mystery solved. I don't think I've misled anyone, but apologize if I have. Thanks for reading and I'll see you at the next workout! 😊 💜

Took the big trash bag from the kitchen out to the bin. Soon as I opened the lid, a wasp flew out and proceeded to chase me (I don't move fast). I managed to get back inside unscathed. 🐝

Went to climb on the recumbent bike and kept right on going off the other side. The seat and my freakishly long arms saved my ass from hitting the floor. 🎢

Lost my balance trying to open a window and smashed my hand into the sill. My bird finger was the only casualty (pic). It'll be a lovely dark purple by morning. Thanks blood thinners 👍 🪟

Forgot ~ until ten minutes ago ~ the cleaning lady is coming tomorrow so I'll be scrambling to pre-clean the rest of the day. 🤦‍♀️

So, Sherbert is a 17 year old sun conure parrot 🦜 who became my roomie almost 7 years ago. She was originally adopted by a family as a birthday gift for their 10 year old kid.

Interest in Sherbert waned pretty quick and she was ultimately dismissed to live in a laundry room with no socialization and no opportunity to fly. At least she had a window to look out of. 😭

Eventually, mom and dad split and mom got stuck with all the animals as the kids were adults living on their own. My sister knew mom and found out about Sherb, mentioned her to me and the happy dance took over. I've always wanted a sun conure! It took 1 day to organize and I adopted her on New Year's Day, 2019.

Nutritionally, she was somewhat taken care of and is now stuck in her ways and refuses to try anything new. 🙄 I think she could fly if she really wanted to, but she doesn't. Her wings were continually clipped previously. 🥺

She's a very happy bird now! 😊 I do not get left alone. EVER. Unless she's sitting on eggs, like now. (she has 2) It's a unique relationship that I wouldn't trade for anything 💜 :purple_heart_sparkle: 💜
