They want to sell a new thing.<br/>Also, I am one of the local businesses, and would often take paid repair work if it wasn&#39;t suitable for the repair cafe.<br/><br/>Now, when I do that, I charge a &#39;pay as you feel&#39; and donate the money back to the repair cafe to help keep it running. That helped.<br/><br/>First item, I helped get into a games console thingy that the client had already part opened. Unfortunately they had also managed to tear off a flexible pcb ribbon making it a non repairable for us. Also it needed a new USB charge port, but the heat needed to desolder/resolder the four grounding pads would have desoldered a load of adjacent surface mount components.<br/><br/>Second item was a tiny Roberts radio. Beyond me, but another repairer had a look and said it was too dead to repair.<br/>In exchange, I looked at the sewing machine they were working on, and fixed that for them.<br/><br/>Third item was a hedge trimmer. I shortened the damaged cable and made adjustments to the safety interlock so that it worked.<br/><br/>Forth item was some Xmas lights. The switch on the battery box was intermittent. I desoldered the switch and took it apart to clean the internal contacts. They were not repairable.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, I repaired a little Xylophone. The elastic used to hold the tone bars had snapped so I renewed it.<br/><br/>I then helped a chap repair his toaster, he had the parts but not the tools.<br/><br/>I put a new aglet on the end of a shoelace, made from hot glue and heat shrink.<br/><br/>I got a mid century teak chair to repair as homework. All the joints were loose and badly reglued.<br/><br/>My novice had a halogen standard lamp with two built in dimmers. The circuits were fried so we worked out how to convert it to two on/off switches.
