Ah, I may be posting a silly amount of the visiting sir in the near future... But he's just so pretty! So very pretty!
Also: My phone camera has this bug where sometimes, when you put on zoom, it goes "Zoom? You want zoom?? I'll give you zoom!" and not only zooms the fuck in, but also crops the image to the middle of the frame only without showing it to me, sometimes resulting in very artistic images... Enjoy this one, of sir napping!

Waist length, Edwardian in style, will have black cuffs and collar. Two layer back and front yokes, for a bit of structure and anti cat claw properties. Used the same decorative topstitching as on skirt!

The placket is pretty much the most slow and precise bit of a skirt, even the waistband with its hook & thread bar closures isn't quite as fiddly, because it will mostly sit snug against the waist. But the placket, oh! That needs to not pull or pucker, especially as it's going to be on the side front this time. I think I've worked on this for three days probably, and the rest of the skirt apart from the hem could be sewn in a day...

Still need to whipstitch the loose edge of the herringbone tape ...

Still need to whipstitch the loose edge of the herringbone tape in place so it doesn't wiggle about when worn and washed and become a lumpy nuisance. This should be mostly not visible from the right side, with fine careful hand sewing, but... With the soft linen there's going to be the shadow of it anyway! Less apparent than topstitching would be but being very even with it would still be good, so I left it for today instead of rushing it yesterday.

Yesterday's sewing: Put on the hooks onto the placket after topstitching the edges of it on both sides. The hook handles first just whipped on, sewn onto just the seam allowance, and then straight through in a little tack only. Attached a bit of cotton tape to hide the hooks and reinforce the opening without making it too bulky!

Did get the fabric washed and now need to iron it so I can cut out the skirt pieces! And then onwards to overlocking all the pieces and then ironing them again... Might attempt to cut out all the shirt pieces from the leftover fabrics as well so I can do it all in a series, and don't have to set up the overlocker twice? Anyway.

It's a very nice very dark blue, almost black in everything but bright daylight! I like it!

The only sorts of trousers I like are the ones that are loose, puffed or so full they're pretty much a skirt anyway, and I'm also of the skinny and long legged variety. It's a rarer body type in several ways, and I'm not even that tall and it kind of makes even me look like a secretary bird, with a human torso stuck up on stilts, and it's simply not that nice of a look! Striking, but also will likely make people want to sit you down and feed you, or cast aspersions on your mental health or worry about your food budget...

Got the new sewing machine today and tired myself out in the process. At this very second I'm too tired to even edit and post the usual Outside Girl, but the machine turns on the light and did stitches, so I guess I'm just going to rest for a little bit before I do anything else. :blob_cat_melt:

It's just a Husqvarna Onyx 25, which is rather a basic beginner model, but it does a machine buttonhole and multiple decorative stitches, lets me adjust for fabric thickness AND do machine darning... So all in all it should do me fine as my second sewing machine. The trusty Classica 95 continues to do an absolutely beautiful straight stitch very fucking fast, but that's almost all it does!

My current theory is that Musti and Rudolf have achieved peace because Rudolf has absolutely no illusions of being able to take him in a fight and there's no reason for delicate kitty negotiations about status and pecking order... I think Musti, really quite strong and muscular but also even more rotund and with a thick coat, might be about twice the weight of the poor visiting bean? 😅 Musti is also pretty chill about most things, and doesn't seem to care about a fourth cat beyond polite curiosity!

Pörri has decided he's not really into Rudolf and is mostly avoiding him. Karvinen pays close attention and the two oranges posture at each other sometimes, and Musti and Rudolf seem to have made peace with each other. There was more nose sniffing yesterday and this morning, and they're the least wary of each other. Poor Pörri was walking too close to visiting sir and got lightly swatted in the face today, but mostly seemed surprised and mildly offended before calmly walking off!

Continuing with cat reports: Visiting sir has relaxed enough that he began singing his little songs to me yesterday, and wow did he keep singing... Any time I tried to record the pretty ridiculous sound, he'd keep going precisely until I hit record!

Of further note! He's refused any sort of kibble and very many wet foods for so so many months now, enough to make Mum despair over what to feed him. Here, for the last couple of days, he's just been... Nibbling on some kibble in the evenings? He doesn't even have his own bowl, he figured out the boys' simple puzzle bowl and helped himself! 😸

Eating more certainly isn't going to hurt him, so this is nice.

Cat report continues! Visiting sir has been taking it easy, clearly knows the boys and where he is. He seems to be the most chill with Musti, and Musti mostly seems to politely ignore him. Which is good for cats that are near strangers!

Sir has been enjoying the cracked open window, and seemed to have his little mind blown when he looked through it this high up, I'd assume it looks different through the window?

Grand news for fans of the Visiting Sir, Rudolf! I've been a bit poorly and stuck in books and thus not posting as much, but shall be attempting multitudinous pictures of Fourth Cat as he comes over to stay for a couple of days. I'm hoping the sirs all get along roughly as well as they have, or better... But we'll see!

In any case, have tired myself out with vacuuming all of Rudolf's usual napping and skulking locations, and now need to sit the fuck down. 😅

I'm generally genuinely and of my own free will polite, patient, kind and even helpful and warm to pretty much anyone I meet, since it's not a great ordeal for me and most people are inherently likeable once you get to know them and understand why they're like that...

Sure, the specific etiquette for any situation is going to be slightly different, but that's why you shut the fuck up and observe for a little bit! And after you've observed, you do your best! It's not that complicated to try, people will notice you trying at least!

Anyway. Truly just incomprehensible to me. Even if you don't natively "speak the language" of the social situation you're in, that doesn't mean you just raise your own volume and hope everyone magically understands yours!

Vague photos of the green skirt I just finished! It's really a lovely fabric, the embroidery is so pretty, and it's very very light. The hem facing is stiff enough to give it some body, and the nine gores while more work, made a really lovely shape happen!

My immune system is medically suppressed overly enthusiastic trash, and I have the constitution of a napkin, but I also wear a mask pretty much every time I go outside unless I'm going into a forest outdoors and am not expecting to be face to face with more than one person. Because it's fairly easy, and definitely easier than getting sick, which is often a month's long recovery process for me and also dangerous.

That said... I'm sure I've had the cold at some point? I must have, just can't recall when!
