Quite enjoying the TV-series The Gentlemen. I had passively ignored it previously, but gave it a shot when in between other series. It is quite typically Guy Ritchie, which isn't surprising as he has made a movie with the same name, and by and large the same set-up. A drawn-out somewhat watered-down mixed-up version of the movies The Gentlemen and Snatch, as a TV series, you could say. Enjoyable though.

What they're actually saying is "we will track our users and be so privacy infringing that it is only legal to do so in the US".

On the topic of "detecting" or "noticing" AI, I saw the other day that even artists like David Revoy (npub16ys…sjae) is now being accused by online commenters of using AI. When he doesn't. We all know that. He's been at it (and active on the Fediverse for years), doing his thing, since 2014 for god sake. Completely free. Using only free software. Long before AI was at the state it is today.

Now, if AI these days can mimic an artist, such as David, and his style, that is one thing. But to call every human-made creation, including Davids, "AI slop" is a slippery slope indeed. Who will create new things for AI to replicate if all the creators are pushed away as AI by lazy people? Will the future only have AI generated by other AI, generated by AI etc? It is a bleak outlook, no?

Also, a recurring topic these last couple of days, it saddens me that these days when people do NOT agree with something they lazily say "AI slop". To anything/everything. They proclaim they have seen the obvious, which means everyone else thinks "oh...really...ok, yeah! I see it too now!" instead of actually reading the content.

I don't post often on LinkedIn (for a good reason) but my very last post was about exactly that: if a writer these days care about making a point, and uses bullet points, bold, cursive etc to emphasize words, they **will** be called "ai slop" nowadays.

On LinkedIn that is extra troublesome as it is *literally* riddled with AI slop, and I mean the obvious kind. But it kills it for those of us that actually type stuff with our own little fingers.

It is not that I'm a huge fan of mosquitos, wasps, flies, bees, bumblebees (they are cool though) etc, but is it only here there has been a distinct lack of them this summer? And I mean ANY of them?

Normally during summers (in my part of Sweden) you need an actual strategy combined with serious preparations to fight off mosquitos and wasps from destroying a BBQ evening, where mosquitos eat you and wasps fly away with your steak.

This year I think I've smashed one unfortunate (desperate?) mosquito who was caught in the act. I have only seen wasps one-at-a-time looking for their mates in a slighly confused state, not the orchestrated and organised food-stealing gangs, with thugs to keep pesky humans away whilst others do the lifting of food.

I mean, if there are no insects to pollinate things and to feed birds, perhaps we should be slightly worried, no?

I'm on a rewatch-tv-series-spree. Have just finished Person of Interest and (re-)started watching Mr Robot. It is quite fascinating how well before their time they were, compared to reality of today. I mean, 10 years ago they predicted, pretty much exactly, what we see right now. They asked the moral questions we don't see anyone asking today when the (then) futuristic technologies were to be implemented, and what the dangers of that could be.

Sure, there some goofy takes on some of details in the intricacies of hacking or programming, but the overall message(s), and the overall view of AI without steering, are amazingly spot on with what we read in the news right now.

Next after Mr Robot I will probably revisit Westworld, which definitely are eerily much like what we see the developments are going (and I'm not necessarily talking about ai-robots for amusement) with AI keeping track of everyone and everything, and you might be excluded from some jobs (and thus places to live etc) based on your medical history, or your family, or your place of birth.

DeltaChat also has restructured their architecture towards ChatMail protocol only there is no longer a confusion over "Is it mail? Or not?" so even Tuta should be able to market it without thinking you are "promoting" a competitor.

As DeltaChat servers doesn't store messages over time it is also an even more secure option than Matrix for individuals (whereas entities/companies that need to log and track all correspondance might benefit more from Matrix/Element as it is nigh on impossible to be certain a deleted message actually is deleted everywhere).

So, as I have been dabbling with AI-solutions, not to replace my creative work, and not to write my texts, but to actually do the things I would prefer to rather *not* do (so I can free up time to create music, take photos etc) I have over time installed/integrated quite a few memory layers on to my AI-agent of choice (Hermes-agent). I could tell you all about that some other time.

However, I have half-jokingly been thinking that >> I << would benefit from a memory add-on too, just to remember all the silly stuff I always (often repeatedly) search online for. Then today I came across yet-another-ai-plug-in. But this one is rather different. It sets out to add memory, not to your AI-agent, but to you.

The idea is that you pick a topic, you get a couple of baseline questions (which you could answer correctly or incorrectly, it doesn't really matter, either will help you with the next step), sets up a learning path for you, based on your skill level and where you would like to be in a couple of months.

My AI-agent then becomes my tutor, sets up my course, who keeps track of my learning, my progress, and which keep nudging me everyday with "reviews" to not let the skills "cool down" in to "oops...forgot that, didn't I...".

I set it up earlier today, I picked a topic (Zero-Trust architecture), it asked me questions to figure out my baseline, where my goals are and how I would like to use my skills, and then set up a learning path which we now have embarked on, and it works really well (I should perhaps wait with saying that until after 3 months, to see if I TRULY remember what I've learnt) but hey.

You can run it with your local models too (as long as your agent/models have internet access to top up on topics). Very cool.

Reading through the installation notes from my Argus I notice there is a snag in there, which might be what you missed when you failed to install it. Argus says:

Just for your info, I got it to work. As Simons plugin has a lot more features than the one I created yesterday, I ditched mine and am now using the one you linked me to.

I would like to take the glory for solving it, but again, it was my Argus (my main Hermes-agent) who actually did the work, I merely copy/paste when he tells me to (protected files, cli-commands etc) and restart things when he tells me to.

One thing I never got to work in my plugin was to get the green double checkmarks in DC for "read" (it creates two gray ones, for sent) but I notice it is the same in Simons plugin, so I guess it is tricky to get working for anyone.

I mainly use Ollama Cloud with their cloud-based models (I also have Openrouter models for backup), for this particular case I used deepseek-v4-flash (I do use some local models for specific tasks, such as cron-jobs, file handling etc, but I let Argus delegate those, which also loads/unloads the relevant local models correctly). Just for information, in case you were wondering what model I used when solving it.

Oh, cool. I had missed that one completely. I had my Hermes build his own gateway for DeltaChat. I normally use Element (Matrix) when I'm out and about (i.e. away from my CLI/TUI) as it can handle Markdown, and unlike Telegram doesn't present messages in a stampsized bubble (apart from that Telegram isn't E2EE as default too), so I mainly wished for a backup via DeltaChat (my fave messaging app).

Had a quite productive day!

* Created a bot/gateway for my main Hermes-agent so I can talk to it via DeltaChat, something that I hadn't found elsewhere. Obviously Argus (that's his name) built it and tested it for me, I mostly cheered him on and re-started gateways when told to do so.

* Helped a friend with a multi-lingual Wordpress site. Haven't toyed around with Wordpress for years, but still quite fun to dig around. I apparently remember quite a bit of it still.

* Installed Tailscale on one of my Arch boxes and was once again impressed over how well Tailscale works. It is rather impressive what you can do within the limits of "free" accounts with tailscale. It is really quite neat to have all my devices on an E2EE private network and it literally takes minutes to set up on each device. I can even set exit nodes in the network, and thus can theoretically benefit from my NAS AdGuard installation even when I'm out and about with my phone.

Nothing like summer vacation eh? 😄

Ah yes, so now my probationary employment is over, on Monday I am permanently employed, for real (it is one of those organisations where probationary employment is not negotiable, regardless of role, my first probationary employment in...umm...20 years I think).

As I am having incredibly amounts of fun at work, and according to my colleagues have made a massive impact/change for the whole organisations in previous unseen ways (mostly good I think), I consider myself lucky. I'm not sure they truly understand what they have done though, as I now will be unstoppable.

Anyways, I celebrated it with cooking a shiitake risotto with lots of white wine/broth, some garlic/chili fried jumbo prawns and asparagus tips, topping it all off with a mountain of parmesan and a proper glass of white wine. Now I'm having a coffee and a cognac and feeling almost like an adult.

It was already clear that The Plot In You supported her cover of Silence, and even cleared it before she had released it, but I, like many others, were curious about what BMTH actually thought of her version of Doomed.

Correct again, if you ARE Google. If everyone start using open-source alternatives it will most likely not contribute to Googles economic growth.

It quite likely will contribute to economic growth for a bunch of smaller/new companies. It will also open the playing field for software development which still being possible for anyone to verify/test/check/view the source code to ensure there are no flaws in there, or algorithms for tracking people based on advertising goals.

They are kind of correct too in that it will probably cause a _temporary_ set-back in economic growth for all those companies that live under the illusion of "there should always be growth and we will do anything to make that happen", but I consider that a good thing. When that speed bump has been passed there will be an opportunity to do a controlled/reasonable acceleration.

Given that Google has removed the "Don't be evil" from their Mission Statement, for unknown reason, I think it is wise, for many different reasons, to cut down on the dependence on Google (and Microsoft, Facebook etc), and to look at alternatives. Ideally open-source ones that can be scrutinized by anyone who wishes to do so.

Some songs though, are completely baffling to me what people with functioning ears possibly can hear in them that make them go "Yeah! That is MY tune!" when I go "He clearly can't sing, they obviously can't play their instruments, it sounds like they are desperately trying to play the same thing on all the instruments, repeatedly (to no f**king end), but missing so it is all off-beat."

Heh. I've been playing Guild Wars 2 since it was released (2012...and Guild Wars "1" before that, since 2005 or something) but I have never been bothered with making legendary gear, as it simply isn't needed. Anyone can rock up to any fight with whatever gear you've acquired by just playing, and it's be (just about) as good as legendary gear. So I haven't really felt the need to grind for them myself. Until now.

I figured last month I should perhaps look in to it anyways. There is a convenience factor with Legendary gear and...well, something to aim for. So I looked at my options, realising I had quite a few bits and bobs in my storage. I was pretty much halfway to the Legendary greatswords Sunrise and Dusk. I got Dusk within that week, so have been sorting out the final bits for Sunrise when I realised if I have them both I can actually create Eternity, which is a combination of both Sunrise & Dusk (and thus twice as valuable).

Said and done. I now have Eternity. What should I go for next? I am thinking I should probably aim for armor. Or perhaps the trinkets...? I will probably sell Eternity anyways, I actually don't think it looks all that good, and I don't really use Greatswords on any of my 9 characters...

Vivaldi browsers latest update includes tiling of tabs in the same window. Unlike other browser makers they keep adding actual usability features **instead** of making every AI, which I (as a multi-device) user of Vivaldi appreciates.

Razer silently quit supporting Macs, I learnt the hard way, and when I contacted their (Razer) support about it, thinking something was wrong they basically said "_yeah, we stopped that_". I said: "_uuhh...right...but there was Mac support for both my mouse and keyboard when I bought them...? You don't think you have any responsibility to phase them out over time?_" and they basically said "_No. Tough luck for you._" and that was it.

So. No more Razer products for me, regardless of platform.

With that said, I properly hate how my Logitech mouse just stops working (on Win that is) and then, after 30 sec or so, I get a "_yeah, we're updating your drivers...hold on_" which always, without fault, leads to a "_Yep. Done. Now connect your gear again_" (which was never disconnected) at which point I am now happy I still can move my cursor around with a touchpad and click save on all the things that need it before I am forced to reboot, as it, for some reason will **not** pick up my mouse again without a reboot.

The joys of computing eh? 😆
