I discovered that if I like something here then I go and like it again on Spinster.club, the like here disappears.

No idea what to do about that. So please understand if I get mixed up about where I liked what.

Addicts are also often provided with drugs and alcohol - at least until they've been 'weaned off' but even that doesn't do much good. And there are many 'safe injection sites' as well as sites where they will test your drugs BEFORE you take them to be sure they are 'safe'. Also there are free Narcan kits all over the place and loads of people now carry them to stop addicts from overdosing on the streets.

(And recently a bid to stop public drug use on the streets failed to pass. So a lot of bus stop shelters are so loaded with people smoking crack that there is no place to sit down for ordinary commuters! SO WHY do foreign idiots keep demanding to come here and stay longer? Then they vandalize the shelters.)

The bottom line is that even if people are shown they'd be better off changing their dangerously stupid lifestyles, there is little that can convince them.

You still see a diagram sometimes for how to use a sit toilet. You have to carry your own toilet paper if you think you might need to go away from home. Otherwise there will likely be someone in front selling small amounts of toilet paper or tissue for a few baht. Some places were like this in Mexico too, buy your toilet paper at the front entrance.

I was very young when my dad, a doctor and coroner had to visit his first such case.

In my early 30s I had to assist a social worker in such a case. It was horrifying - WHILE the attack was actually happening. Even after the man killed most of her children himself she still acted defensive of him. She was like the third of his child brides, all sisters, if I recall. He was a hideous fat disgusting man. She was pretty nice and slim and good-looking and even seemingly relatively sane. She said he'd been walking around with a handgun (illegal in Canada) for at least a month before he decided to kill his family.

Dear friend of freedom,

How far can a professional regulator go in punishing the legitimate expression of opinion made outside the workplace?

You may have already heard about Amy Hamm, a mother of two, who was disciplined by her regulator and subsequently lost her job as a registered nurse after more than four years of disciplinary proceedings for expressing legitimate opinions about biological sex and women’s sex-based rights.

It all started in September 2020 when Amy co-sponsored a short-lived Vancouver billboard that simply said “I ♥ JK Rowling.” That act of solidarity with a writer defending women’s sex-based rights triggered complaints to the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives that Amy was transphobic and stoked hate speech against gender-diverse communities.

The College responded with an investigation into public statements that Amy made between 2018 and 2021, resulting in a 332-page report and more than 20 days of disciplinary hearings that stretched over years.

What had Amy done? She stated publicly, while off duty, that there are only two sexes and that women deserve safe, female-only spaces: bathrooms, change rooms, sports, crisis centres, and prisons.

In March 2025, a Disciplinary Panel of the College found Amy guilty of “unprofessional conduct” and in August 2025 ordered her to pay nearly $94,000 in costs to the College and suspended her nursing licence for one month. Those orders have been stayed while her appeal proceeds.

Amy had worked as a registered nurse for 13 years with an unblemished record. No patient ever complained about the care she provided. She was never disciplined for anything related to her clinical work.

Amy Hamm is being punished for telling the truth. Telling the truth is not misconduct.

What’s next?

Amy is asking the Supreme Court of British Columbia to overturn those decisions, arguing that the College’s Disciplinary Panel erred in its interpretation of discriminatory expression, the connection between her comments and the nursing profession, and the protection of freedom of expression under section 2(b) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

As stated by constitutional lawyer Lisa Bildy, “This appeal raises important questions about the extent to which professional regulators may discipline members for expressing opinions outside of their professional practice.”

The significance of this appeal is further reflected by the number and diversity of organizations seeking permission to intervene in this case. These intervenors are not parties to the appeal. Rather, they seek permission from the Court to make submissions that may assist in resolving the legal issues before it.

The Association for Reformed Political Action Canada (ARPA Canada), the Vancouver Lesbian Collective, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC), Egale Canada, and West Coast Legal Education and Action Fund Association (West Coast LEAF) are all applying to intervene in the case.

Lawyers funded by the Justice Centre have just filed Ms. Hamm’s responses to the proposed intervention applications – supporting some, opposing others.

If granted leave to intervene, the Vancouver Lesbian Collective’s submissions will focus on how the Panel’s conclusions uniquely impact lesbians and chill their ability to advocate in favour of its mandate, including that “sex” is expressly protected by section 15 of the Charter and should mean biological sex, not identity or feelings of identification.

“That five different organizations are applying to intervene in this case suggests there is considerable interest in the outcome of this case, particularly whether regulated professionals are free to express their opinions in public about transgender ideology and other topics of public interest,” said Amy’s lawyer, Lisa Bildy.

“Professional associations like the College, and others that regulate lawyers, teachers, doctors, accountants and other professionals, should focus only on ensuring that professionals are competent and ethical, without policing speech.”

After the BC Supreme Court rules on allowing (or disallowing) various intervenors, the main appeal to the Supreme Court of British Columbia will be heard on November 10, 12 and 13, 2026.

As it becomes harder and harder for me to do anything constructive, I DO rely on big box sellers like fucking Amazon for a lot of stuff. First I try and find the thing in my local neighbourhood and if it's going to take more than a short taxi ride, I have to veto it and find it online.

SCOTUS ruled that states can ban all male athletes from female student athletics, without exceptions for those who identify as transgender.

The Court ruled unanimously that Title IX allows states to pass laws like the laws challenged in this case in West Virginia and Idaho. This is consistent with decades of precedent allowing states to make categorical bans, without exceptions for specific male athletes or categories of male athletes. The decision confirms that states do not need to carve out an exception for male athletes who identify as transgender.

6–3: The Court split on the constitutional question, with the majority holding that the laws do not violate the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause.

As welcome as this news is, there are critical issues that this decision leaves unresolved. We now know that states can ban boys and men from girls’ and women’s sports, but SCOTUS did not rule on whether states are required under Title IX to do so. This leaves female student athletes vulnerable in any state that doesn’t have a law on the books that explicitly limits eligibility by sex.

We had also hoped that the case would resolve the question of whether “transgender identity” or “transgender status” constitutes a protected class under the Constitution. Such a ruling would have an expansive impact on the legal fight for women’s sex-based rights, but unfortunately that question remains unexamined and unaddressed.

The Supreme Court ruled that Title IX allows states to restrict girls’ and women’s sports to only female student-athletes.
