Blaming benefit recipients is so easy though, people already think they're too generous based on some anecdotal nonsense and would go with the idea of punishing the workshy as they see them. Works well in favour of the big corporate donors who need cheap bodies to do underpaid work and on the surface gets people off one sort of benefit though puts them on a different benefit and costs more to run.

Education's a whole other thing though especially when you're already telling people in education their jobs will be done by AI anyway so get good at tending to these error-prone job-stealers.

Does feel like they're taking the wrong approach figuring a simple age barrier is enough without dealing with the problems of social media affecting everyone. The trouble with their solution is akin to needing to provide photo ID that they'll keep a copy of and allowing them to keep a photograph they took of you just to get into a place which sells tobacco products regardless of if you'll be buying any or not. Simplifying that by providing that info automatically isn't a solution either because it's still fundamentally a huge overreach.

Wonder if this'll be attributed to "quiet quitting" which is literally just doing exactly what the job demands in the time allocated to it, no overtime and no extra work. They're trying to make employment numbers go up but they think removing the social safety nets are the way to do it and automating various entry level jobs won't lead to higher unemployment forcing them into the precarious gig economy which is barely making a living for those engaged with it besides the wealthy elites running the gigs.

Nostalgia for... 2020? I mean, I do feel some nostalgia but context is important for what exactly is being missed. People will always look back on the past as some preferable place to be, it's what makes humans immensely sentimental to a fault.

Point is though that 2020 was a hugely different year than many before it, one that threatened to change a lot about how we lived (maybe for the better) until the push to "normal" started because profit wasn't high enough for the corporatocracy. As such things went to shit in that race back to "normal" and now we're here in 2025 wishing for the quiet panic of 2020.

Patriotism and "big tent" politics are rarely going to work for a left-leaning party as those two things will include some conservative voters who'll want their position seen and as such they'll bring them into a more centrist position. Nice if you want to win but you won't be able to effect the sort of change you want.
