The punch-out hole measures 7/8" in diameter (22.5mm). The trade calls this a 1/2" punch-out, but you don't buy a 1/2" clamp, you buy a 3/8" clamp. The thing I miss most about the 1990s is the feeling of optimism. It wasn't universal of course! Plenty of terrible shit was going on in the 1990s, but here in the US we were extremely privileged and genuinely feeling like all the biggest problems in the world were solved, just some loose ends to work out and the 21st century was going to look SO bright!

Were we naive and dumb? Hell yes, of course! But it was an intoxicating feeling, naive or not.

I tried stick welding for the first time tonight, using E6011 rod. Oh my god, I see why people say it's difficult. Getting the arc started with a brand new rod was impossible for me, I just kept sticking it no matter how light and quick my touch was. Eventually the end of the rod was worn down enough that it became pretty easy to strike an arc, but after I burned through the first rod and started a new rod, I had the exact same problem. It's tricky! Respect to stick welders.

Where’s a good place to rent a cabin for a few days and be completely off grid in western Washington? Willing to travel anywhere within a three hour drive of Seattle. Ideally pretty remote, little or no cellular service, isolated, but not full on tent camping. Anyone have any good spots?

I feel like it's probably redundant of me to say this, you already know, but if you are thinking of traveling to the United States for a convention or to see friends: I know it sucks, but please reconsider. It is genuinely not safe right now. Do not put yourself at risk. Stay home, and hopefully your US friends can come see you. If you have ANY option at all that does not involve travel to the United States, I would suggest that. I'm sorry it is this way.

Why does Firefox make it so hard to recommend Firefox?

Google Chrome is obviously evil spyware, you shouldn't use it, period. But Mozilla is always doubling down on being an idiotic company hell bent on shooting itself in the foot, and Firefox is sort of gazing longingly at being evil spyware too. It's not there yet, but they just want it to be soooooo badly.

Everything is awful and terrible and no good and I want it to stop being that way.
