My daughter developed full blown celiac disease after a stomach bug she picked up in Egypt. She had it diagnosed by both the antibody test and the genetic test. Apparently you can have the gene but it may remain dormant until triggered. I know of one person for whom COVID seems to have triggered its activation. Celiac is an autoimmune disease.

One answer is to just write a program that tunes your SDR to the band where the SSTV images are being transmitted, capture the transmission and decode them and then post them to the Fediverse. That all works fine on a headless RasPi with an SDR dongle and an internet connection.

That the air holds more moisture as it gets warmer is only news to people who have been paying attention 🙂, but its also the basis for one potential outcome which is glaciation. Basically jet stream stops, moisture precipitates out as snow, albedo goes through the roof, creating a positive feedback loop and you get 10,000 years of ice age.

Oh I missed that bit. There was a co-worker at NetApp that I knew who built his own plane and used to tell stories of how cavalier some of the other kit builders were. He said after that experience if he were to buy a plane that someone else had built he would completely disassemble it and reassemble it to verify it was done correctly. Seems challenging in that many steps are pretty much one way.

There is a certain level of craziness you need to install parts bought at a swap meet that will, if they fail, possibly kill you. My dad was familiar with people who would sell 3D printed gun parts at gun shows that he knew would fail if they got hot. I wonder what sort of liability the swap meet has for that sort of thing?

Language adoption is slower than you’d think and running code is better than ‘new’ code. So longer a commonly used language has been around the more likely its near the top. Also why ‘dead’ languages like VB are hard to kill. I’m impressed Rust is as high as it is.

There is an effort to get TENEX out into the wild. As you know TENEX was the PDP-10 OS that BBN wrote that we ran at USC-ECL on our “ARPA Net” host (ECL-C) and at USC-ISI. Currently owned by Raytheon (who bought BBN). The pager is different which makes emulating it tough without source code.

I appreciate your sentiment of a strong Ukraine. Maintaining nuclear weapons was outside of Ukraine’s control then as it is now. And this particular point of view excuses the fact that the US was TREATY BOUND to protect Ukraine and it did not.

That the US didn’t rally the UN and Europe and send in troops in 2014 to repel the “green men” was the real crime. As a result I cannot help but see this sentiment as victim blaming rather than support. FWIW.

I kid you not, but one of the more creative ideas for getting kids interested in palentology was to have them put hand prints into concrete stepping stones (it was some sort of art kit) and then BURYING those stones in the sierra foothills. With the idea that a million years from now the Fossils they are creating will be in museums that other kids will look at and wonder about.

My progressive lens glasses can do that. As the switch between mid-range and far is just above my pupil it creates a prism that generates blue/purple highlights over LEDs that are not behind diffusers (like car headlights)
