2026-10-28T18:30:00Z

The Avalon Q is the most powerful miner I've run at home for heat. About 15x my Nano 3S. I tripped my breaker testing it on Super and had to drop to Standard.

So I ran the numbers: payouts vs what it adds to my power bill, compared with the space heater I'd be running anyway. On Standard it pays back about two thirds of its power. Over a Calgary winter that's roughly $574 CAD back on heat I'd pay for regardless.

Also covered three ways to get paid: OCEAN to my own address, Braiins over Lightning, and lotto mining on my own Umbrel.

Been using PPQ for AI lately and it's exactly how I want AI to work. No account, no subscription, top up with sats and pay per prompt. Hundreds of models, uncensored ones included.

The best part: I plugged it into my Hermes agent on my Umbrel, and Alby Hub tops it up automatically over NWC with a monthly budget.

Thanks dev (npub1pdn…x6pk) and Alby (npub1get…0nfm) for building this stuff.

I've been digging into the latest Bitchat updates for my new video and honestly, they're awesome.

You can send sats right in the chat with Cashu ecash, share the app phone to phone with no internet at all, and wipe everything with a triple tap. I grabbed it from Zapstore since it keeps getting pulled from app stores.

Huge respect to jack (npub1sg6…f63m), calle (npub12rv…85vg) and everyone building this.

Just made a video on setting up Hermes agent on your umbrel (nprofile…cnv5) - either using cloud/frontier OR using local models via something like Bionic.

This will give you an agent on your own segregated machine, but with new updates to Umbrel it also gives you a way to control the Umbrel remotely for literally anything you want to do.

I YOLO'd into some of the permissions just to see what was possible. You should maybe be a tad more cautious than I was 😄

2026-09-12T15:06:29Z

I've been using Qwen 3.8 27b on my local machine for a bit and it's pretty solid! For ease of use I've got it in Bionic (made by LM Studio) which acts as an agent for whatever models you run - able to make files, folders, call tools, link in MCP servers, build apps, build repetitive skills, etc.

The other cool thing is that you can use LM link to share models with any of your other computers - both locally and globally.

I covered it all in this video. If you have yet to dive into the world of local AI, this is the video for you. I start simple, then build up a knowledge base throughout. Please enjoy, and share if you find it useful!

2026-09-08T14:42:41Z

FROSTSNAP is a new way of doing multisig using the Frost protocol.
One key, split across multiple devices.
No config file necessary.
Probably the easiest multisig setup I've experienced.

If you have enough devices to sign, you have enough devices to recreate the wallet.

Looks like (and is) single sig on-chain, meaning lower fees and better privacy (transactions don't reveal it's a multisig).

This tutorial shows the full setup, tx flow, recovery, and I weigh in on some benefits/tradeoffs.

In this moment I think that diversification of security is actually a better mindset. That can be splitting funds across 2 or 3 vendors or for the tech savvy it could mean multi vendor multisig.

I also think that a year from now the best options will be ones that have been heavily hardened by AI audits of their codebase that are publicly verified and patched. Right now it's early days of that process.

Logically it should work, but honestly I've lost all trust.

2026-08-11T15:34:45Z

This past week was a nightmare and forced me to reexamine a lot of my assumptions and threat models. Two topics bubbled to the top alot that I thought warranted videos... so I got to work.

How do you use dice to generate your own entropy when creating keys? This video uses dice and the SeedSigner (nprofile…w6hy) to accomplish just that, while verifying using an external tool.

https://youtu.be/oMDPMZL5xLw

Putting trust in a single hardware vendor means having all your eggs in one basket. One tactic may be to keep some of your corn in different devices. Another may be to combine them into a multi-vendor multisig. This video goes through doing the latter - on Sparrow with Trezor, Jade and BitBox (nprofile…0kcc) , then on mobile with nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7etyv4hzumn0wd68ytnvv9hxgqgkwaehxw309ahx7um5wgh8xmr0w358jtnhd9hqqgxrq8cnxukg7rvmeqvxmp605306xwhduylxdaqc0gaaythyrj2m9gaf4lkm (nprofile…4lkm) SeedSigner (nprofile…w6hy) and Blockstream (nprofile…g8xl) Jade.

https://youtu.be/Ja3ETXLmklI

There's no perfect answer for EVERYONE, but it's worth exploring your options and seeing what works for you.

Today I launched Sovereign Sessions with 3 new freedom tech tutorials.

LM Studio:
How do you start with the basics of running AI locally on your laptop? What do all the fancy terms mean? What is your hardware capable of running and where does it fall short? Find out here.

https://youtu.be/vuii4FjH59g

GrapheneOS:
The looming threat of OS level age verification, paired with the always-on tracking of Apple and Google are enough to make a lot of people look for an alternative. Graphene is one of the most private OS options for mobile out there. Here's how to install and use it.

https://youtu.be/DXLAFrCVoEg

Umbrel Pro:
When people refer to sovereign computing, it can include a lot of things. Hosting your own files, photos, media, passwords, AI agents, Bitcoin node, etc. The Umbrel Pro is an accessible plug and play way to start setting foot in that world. Here's how to set up and navigate one as you start your journey.

This channel will also be the new home for my Bitcoin tutorials - of which I have a dice roll/Seedsigner video and a multi-vendor multisig video both coming out on Tuesday.

The funny thing about this is that this term must be VERY jurisdictionally sensitive. I've been to Bitcoin events around the would and this is the first time I've ever heard of someone being offended by it. In fact many conferences have attendees organize side events called pleb parties - including European ones. There was just a pleb party in Prague 2 weeks ago.

Here in Canada the word is so mundane that it would be similar to someone calling you bud or dude, or at worst a light hearted self deprecating reference to being less affluent.

That's kind of the point though. It's a recognition that the fiat elites believe they are above everyone, but bitcoiners take insults and wear them as a badge of honor so they lose their power. Plenty of examples of this.

Bitcoin maxi was an insult from Vitalik.
Some pundit on X called everyone 80IQ.
The skull of Satoshi was funded by xrp/Greenpeace to ruin Bitcoin's public image.

All of them were embraced and became part of the meme culture.

2026-06-26T15:38:03Z

Today will be our 7th Sat Market here in Calgary. Since bootstrapping this local Bitcoin market a couple years ago it has grown into an awesome community that I now feel is becoming self sustaining. Tonight we're expecting between 40-50 vendors and a few hundred people in attendance.

Community members now regularly volunteer to help organize, others step up to help with funding (which was out of my own pocket for most of them), and we're beginning to expand into additional community events so it becomes more of an experience.

I can't wait to see what's next, and I encourage people to build their own local communities that use Bitcoin as money. It's incredibly rewarding and brings everyone together. Will post pics after the event!

Yes the only fully private way to get Bitcoin is to meet and trade a stranger with a mask on, with no digital communication at any point, and ensure that no surveillance cameras were able to track your path after you leave and go home.

The main point is, on a scale of privacy (especially obtaining Bitcoin online), the act of sending a one time transfer to somebody with no explicit reason stated anywhere is far better than a large entity with reporting requirements and perpetual records requiring full identification.

Personally, I think everyone has already made up their own minds at this point and it wouldn't change anything - so that's factored into my decision. I'm running what I want to, and I have my thoughts on how things will play out - which may be right or wrong.

Regardless of how things play out, I'll still be using Bitcoin as money in the fall and working to build my local community/educate people on Bitcoin & freedom tech.

The platform doesn't take any ID, nor does it see the transfer. The bank has no indication that the transfer has anything to do with Bitcoin.

One person will see the etransfer to them and know it was for the Bitcoin they sold. Similar to if you bought in person from someone at a meetup that knew your name.

There will be no online record of the sale.

I've been messing around with hodlhodl (nprofile…ac87) now that they added lightning and it's pretty seamless. Definitely worth testing if anyone gets the chance. I'll have a tutorial for that when Sovereign Sessions launches this August, but it's basically the same flow as on-chain with some small differences.

Feel free to check out my previous tutorial:

IMO it would be a similar price point for a multisig with other hardware, but setup is quicker and there's no need for a config file, since the frost protocol is not multisig but has similar qualities.

Drawbacks right now are compatibility. You're tied to one device vendor and app, though there is a recovery protocol that can be swept though something like Sparrow.

One of the coolest things this year at thebitcoinconf (nprofile…7emy) was seeing the hunger people have for hands on education and personal responsibility.

Our team with TheBTCMentor (nprofile…g97c) was a little tucked away in the open source area, but people found us, flooded in, filled the seats, lined the walls, and sat on the floor. They learned cold storage, privacy, multisig, and so much more.

Remember, just because the suits and feds are here, doesn't mean the self sovereign bitcoiners have gone away. Looking forward to doing this again.
