The ads boast about a clean energy future and lower emissions, while in actual fact the Carney government has dismantled climate policy and doubled down on fossil fuels. Mark Carney has even candidly admitted that these policies will increase Canada’s emissions.

When you make false environmental claims in advertising, it’s called greenwashing. And in Canada, it’s illegal.

So my NDP colleagues have filed a complaint with the Competition Bureau to open an official investigation.

If the PM wants to reverse climate action and buy the oil industry another pipeline, let’s have that debate.

But you can’t have it both ways: Canada is not currently on track for a clean energy future. We’re hurtling in the wrong direction.

Netanyahu is also wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes. As a member of the ICC, Canada has a duty to arrest him if he enters the country.

Has the government been knowingly shirking its responsibility and allowing a wanted war criminal to fly through our airspace? If he is flying through without permission, why not say so?

Allowing this to pass without consequence sets a dangerous precedent. Canadians deserve a clear answer.

Last week, a company called Hugging Face (which hosts AI models and datasets) said it had been subject to a cyberattack. This was a completely new kind of attack. For the first time, an AI agent has executed an autonomous attack on another system.

Yesterday, OpenAI admitted that some of its models had escaped their sandbox and were responsible for the intrusion. This is a first (at least we hope it is!) and even OpenAI is calling it "an unprecedented cyber incident”.

These companies, and the tech oligarchs leading them, are completely out of control. The Carney government is committing a grave error by embracing corporate generative AI with no controls, regulation, or red lines whatsoever.

We need a data centre moratorium, and a transparent, national debate on the threats AI poses, immediately. This is terrifying stuff that needs sunlight and government regulation with maximum urgency.

Just days before Carney’s India visit, police warned the head of the Sikh Federation of Canada about a credible death threat. The RCMP have previously linked the Indian government to the assassination of a Canadian, and warned about threats on the lives of other Canadian Sikhs, including our party's former leader Jagmeet Singh.

This is unacceptable. The safety of Canadians can never be up for negotiation in trade talks. We absolutely must diversify our trade to reduce our reliance on the US—but never at the expense of the safety, security and rights of Canadians.

Trump is fuelling a humanitarian crisis in Cuba, with an oil blockade that is leading to devastating power outages and rationing. This administration is determined to dominate the hemisphere with brute force and naked impunity.

Canada has a long history of good relations with Cuba. We have consistently voted at the UN to end the blockade of Cuba, and millions of Canadian tourists have visited the island.

We should immediately follow Mexico’s lead and condemn this act of economic warfare. C'est pourquoi je suis très honoré de bénéficier du soutien de ces remarquables leaders agricoles qui se sont battus pour la souveraineté alimentaire, pour la protection des terres agricoles et contre le contrôle des entreprises sur notre système alimentaire.

That’s why I’m so honoured to have the support of these remarkable agriculture leaders who have fought for food sovereignty, for farmland protection, and against corporate control of our food system.

2/ But yes, we are still on The Website of Undiluted Vileness, as we are on all the others. Our team debates this constantly, and I personally would love to get off the most toxic one (though if we’re honest, the owners of all the big platforms are equally craven in their extractive practices, their eager surveillance, and enthusiastic embrace of rising fascism in our time).

For now, we’ll continue to reach people wherever they are. And if we win leadership of the NDP, our community will take our vigorous internal debate about how to square our values with our online activities - and do what we can not just on policy, but on practice.

I know there will be many of you who are unsatisfied with this position. But I think the Fediverse is one of the last public spaces where transparency and honesty are the minimum standard, and I want to honour that culture by sharing where our campaign is at right now.

It is a cosmic relief to finally be here, and I’ll check in and chat whenever I can.

A quick update from me. While some might have said, “entering the Fediverse with its unique and engaged culture is totally bonkers when you’re in the middle of a federal leadership race”, we said, “sure, why not? It’s the only platform that really corresponds to our values, and it’s worth trying at least.”

Shoutout to nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyd968gmewwp6kyqpq6tydwrfdft57hkg80j840cxdx7mra05ehnn7570gm9zg6hf33w4sknffen (nprofile…ffen) who lobbied with relentless grace for this to happen.

This means that yes, the campaign and I are here now. But also, that we’re spread really thin and are not going to be able to engage to the level of engagement that Fediverse culture expects, at least not in the short term.

I’m not a fan of just broadcasting here, but for the next couple of months, that’s mostly what we’ll be doing.

Our young staffer who posts on every social media platform has enthusiastically learned as much as possible about Fediverse practices, and is doing a hell of a job here at posting in a thoughtful way (as some of you have noted).

The Minister of AI having an "ongoing engagement" with the government of Israel on technology and AI is deeply concerning. No, it’s just plain wrong. It makes Canada vulnerable to international legal consequences, and it takes Canada far down the wrong path.

The post itself radiates the same kind of defiant impunity we’ve seen from both Israel and the Trump administration when it comes to flouting international law.
