So much of the western US looks like empty land, but you&#39;re actually looking at first growth forest (managed for logging), rivers full of mining or agriculture runoff, or range land. The few relatively untouched wilderness areas are unique and beautiful whole organisms that need protection. Nothing like floating in a cozy cocoon. <br/><br/>I used an under quilt with a foam pad in the hammock instead of two under quilts. May be lighter and/or more versatile. Snowshoes help a lot and can be used to pack down snow under your setup. I&#39;ve got snow anchors but haven&#39;t actually used them yet.
