So apparently it was totally fibreglass, no timber at all.

Apparently these fibreglass cabinets were being tested as a replacement for plywood due to a shortage at the time and also to reduce export costs due to the lighter weight.

One of the issues with them was not only durability on site but because they were so much lighter the feel of the game suffered so they put sand bags in the bottom of them!

A few weeks before the Chicago AMOA show, news got out that Williams had a new game, Gorgar, that could talk.

Bally management panicked. They pulled their experimental fibreglass cabinet KISS out and hastily added speech.

This new prototype KISS with primitive speech boards could barely scream out intelligible speech such as "Get the K!", "KISS", and groaned "Too much Rock and Roll!" when tilted.

Today marks the 30th anniversary of Id Software's Quake.

It's hard to convey how revolutionary this game was in 1996. Running on a fast Pentium, it delivered baked lighting, true 3D levels, polygonal enemies, a NIN score and Lovecraftian worlds at around 30 FPS @320x240 😜

It helped pioneer Internet FPS gaming through client-side prediction over 28.8Kb/s modems and drove adoption of early 3D accelerators.
