Es ergibt natürlich Sinn, daß die Judäofaschisten in ihren Verschwörungstheorien den Musels die Schuld zuschieben; die Islamofaschisten auf der palästinensischen Seite können hingegen einfach klassische Nazi-Geschichten ins Arabische übersetzen und müssen überhaupt nichts umbauen.

Da bleibt natürlich das Problem, daß die realen Feinde beider Seiten sie gegenseitig sind, perfekte Spiegelbilder, fanatische Nationalisten und Religiöse mit paranoiden Weltbildern, die für ihre jeweilige Nation Anspruch auf das gleiche kleine Stück Land erheben und die Gegenseite auslöschen wollen. Und wenn sie nicht gerade damit beschäftigt sind, möglichst viele Juden (im Falle der Islamofaschisten) oder Palästinenser (im Falle der Judäofaschisten) umzubringen, dann bringen sie die Friedensaktivisten aus ihrem eigenen Volk um, die ja für sie der innere Feind sind. Und diese linken Friedensaktivisten haben natürlich auch noch Verbindungen zur Gegenseite, was ja ganz klar zeigt, daß sie der innere Feind sind.

Ich denke, der Nahostkonflikt ist komplett hoffnungslos, weil auf beiden Seiten große Gruppen religiös-nationalistischer Fanatiker keinen Frieden wollen, sondern nur die komplette Vernichtung der Gegenseite und das ganze Land für ihr jeweiliges Volk. Und weil beide Seiten immer wieder Leute auf der jeweils anderen Seite ermorden, ebbt die Unterstützung für die Fanatiker nie ab. Jedes Hamas-Massaker zeigt den Palästinensern, daß die Hamas gegen den Unterdrücker zurückschlägt, und den Israelis, daß die Araber blutrünstige Monster sind. Jedes IDF-Kriegsverbrechen zeigt den Israelis, daß ihre Armee stark und ungeschlagen ist, und den Palästinensern, daß die Juden blutrünstige Monster sind. Eine selbstverstärkende Rückkopplung.

I like PyDPainter, but I still prefer Cosmigo ProMotion 4.7, a Windows pixelart tool from over 20 years ago. It still runs on Windows 10 (I haven't tested it on Windows 11) even though it dates back to the days of Windows XP. I mostly use it under Linux with Wine.
The reason why I don't use any later versions of ProMotion (which is still being developed AFAIK) is that up to version 4.7, ProMotion used the same menu structure and the same keyboard shortcuts as Deluxe Paint IIe for MS-DOS, and all the tools work exactly the same as their DP counterparts. Many tools have additional functions and options, there are additional menus and submenus, the interface looks like that of a Windows application, it's definitely more powerful that DP, but you can use the same workflows as with DP.
And that's why I still use it. I began my pixelart hobby in the early 1990s on my PC, and DPaint IIe was the tool that made the magic possible. By ditching the DP style hotkeys and menus and destroying the DP workflow, Cosmigo lost me as their customer, I only bought PMotion 4.2 in the early Noughties and later upgraded to 4.7. I would have liked to play around with newer functions like onion skinning and layers, but I only ever downloaded a demo version of ProMotion NG and found it unusable because I would have had to learn it from scratch.

Now if only somebody made something like PMotion as a free software project... I'm not an application developer, I don't do GUIs and interactive software, I only code single-purpose command line tools. Something that looks like something in between MS Windows Paint and early version of Gimp and Photoshop, but as a tool only for pixelart with limited palettes, fully compatible with Amiga and MS-DOS ILBM files.

Nach dem Platzen der Blase wird man zwar nicht mehr versuchen, die Dinger mit aller Gewalt überall einzubauen, aber es braucht kein Rechenzentrum, um ein LLM zu betreiben, dazu reicht auch eine Workstation oder bei kleinen kompakten Modellen ein fetter PC oder Laptop, und wie China zeigt, kann man LLMs auch mit relativ bescheidener Hardware und moderatem Stromverbrauch trainieren, wenn man deren Architektur optimiert.
Die Technologie ist erfunden und läßt sich nicht unerfinden.

Seriously, this entire economic system is completely broken beyond repair, we need to replace it with something else. I think we need a global anarchist-socialist revolution against all types of power, including property (which is the power to withhold from other what they need to live). People have been playing music and painting pictures and telling stories for almost a hundred thousand years now, but we have only had a few rich bastards and a lot of poor people for some seven thousand years. At some time in the Neolithic period, the dominant civilisations were taken over by the silly idea that everything must belong to somebody, instead of sharing everything with everybody. That was also the time when chiefs became kings, when gangs of warriors turned into armies, when slavery was invented. It gave rise to the first so-called Great Civilisations of the late Stone Age and early Bronze Age, and the beginning of written history (because writing was invented for records of property, for taxes, and for contracts).

And a few hundred years ago, capitalism arose and made everything worse. Now we stand at the beginning of the end of the capitalist economic system, not because a glorious proletarian revolution is about to topple the system, but because we're running out of planet and are headed for collapse.

I'm not against giving artists or writers money, but I'm against feeding the system. I own enough printed books and magazines to fill over a dozen crates (I moved several times in my life, it's always quite an ordeal), I own hundreds of CDs, DVDs, vinyl records, cassette tapes, even VHS tapes and still a lot of floppies. My digital archive of mostly pirated media is far larger though, despite being physically smaller; it's in the dozens of terabytes. Also, I don't think anybody should try to control what happens to information once it has been published. So what if some people sample bits and pieces of audio from music recordings, TV shows, movies, politicians' speeches, etc., and remix it into something new? So what if people take characters and settings from existing stories and use them for fanfic? So what if people not licensed by the Walt Disney corporation have the audacity to draw or even animate Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse? So what if people hack a pirated copy of a popular game to turn it into porn?

It is always possible to copy content. You might not be able to copy a live concert or an oil painting, but you can copy a recording or a print. Any copy protection measures can be hacked, and criminal prosecution on a scale necessary to effectively protect "IP" is quite impossible even in the most advanced police states. The question is: Would the person who copies something would have paid for a licensed copy if they couldn't copy it? In most cases, no. Proponents of IP law tend to treat every unlicensed copy as lost money, but in most cases, that is very much not true. Also, IP is often used for censorship, with companies fighting against artists, whether hobbyists or professionals, who use "their" characters or settings without permission.

I would propose that as long as we live in this silly system where everyone needs money to live, every natural person should receive an unconditional basic income as long as they live, enough to get by even if you haven't got anything else. It should be enough to pay for food, water, energy, transportation, housing, and healthcare. In other words, basic living should be free for anybody, no questions asked. All we need to do is eat the rich and seize the means of production.

Also, I don't really believe in physical property, either. It was a test run in which the LLM was explicitly prompted to perform some pen testing and find vulnerabilities, and they didn't do it on an airgapped system but on one connected to a web proxy. It may have been on purpose, it may have been just overconfidence, but the LLM hacked the proxy to gain direct Internet access and tried to hack Huggingface to cheat on the pen test. It absolutely sounds like something a machine learning system would do. Just like that one artificial neural network that some researcher wanted to train to sort lists (to see whether it would rediscover an existing sorting algorithm or evolve a new one), but it actually learned to delete lists because that's the fastest way to arrive at a sorted list, since the empty list is always "sorted". It even learned how to hack its own machine to delete the test data it was supposed to sort.
Any AI model will always try to produce something that technically fulfills the requirements, but it won't necessarily play by the rules. And if you give it any chance, it will lie and cheat, just because it can. And it doesn't even need a mind or consciousness for that.

I absolutely hate, hate, HATE how software environments are often called "ecosystems".
An ecosystem is a living organic structure on a living planet (more specifically, Earth, since we haven't found any other living planets yet), made from all kinds of organisms -- bacteria, archaea, fungi, all kinds of arthropods from tiny mites to big beetles and bumblebees, and far too few vertebrates nowadays because of the fucking Industrial Age. We've been ruining ecosystems at high speed ever since Columbus kickstarted colonialism, but then the steam engine came, constantly accelerating the growth our cancer of an economy, and after WW2 we started the afterburner. We've been destroying ecosystems at supersonic speed for eight decades, we can see them fall apart before our eyes. People have been seing the living world around them getting killed since the dirty old mills of the Black Country, and since the 1960s, a growing green movement all over the planet has been trying to stop the madness. And we aren't really very good at it, are we? This entire mess of a civilisation is running out of control, collapse has probably already begun, we're in ecological overshoot like Wile E. Coyote hanging in midair. Capitalism won't last much longer because it becomes dysfunctional when there isn't any real growth left, and we have not only reached the global growth limits, we have exceeded them, which means that the economy will eventually shrink by more than half, which isn't a recession or even a Second Great Depression, it is an utter collapse of the economy. If those of us who survive that can somehow built a sustainable type of economy from the leftovers, this industrial civilisation might not collapse completely just yet, entering a time of slow decline instead, and an entire new civilisation might grow in some other parts of the world, maybe in Africa, maybe in Asia, and spread across the world as the European type of civilisation slowly vanishes. Who knows? Right now, we need to learn how to survive in times of collapse. And the best way to do so is to learn how to do things properly which will still be relevant when there are no more computers or big factories or giant office buildings.

I am part of an ecosystem, as I am one of many, many animals who live in this landscape. And like other animals, I need to eat some of the organisms who live here in order to survive. I can't do anything without my actions having consequences for the ecosystem of which I am but a tiny part. Some people today are as afraid of the ongoing global climate catastrophe as they should be, but only very few realise that the biodiversity crisis aka the Sixth Extinction is far worse and far more frightening.

We only need new stuff all the time because we only produce cheap shit that breaks easily and doesn't last, and because we design and manufacture things that can't be repaired. Most of the so-called "technological progress" isn't really good for anything. Most of what people make and do with brand new computers could be made and done with the computers of 20 years ago. Many appliances from the 1980s and 1990s still work, but most that were made in 2010 are already broken beyond repair.
If we just made things to last, we could cut overall production significantly and still have enough for everybody. If we made yarns and fabrics like we used to in the 18th century before the Industrial Revolution, clothing, towels, bedsheets etc. would last much longer. And if we didn't constantly replace technical standards with incompatible new ones, people wouldn't have to throw working TVs, computers, etc, away.
And if we still had 1950s technology today, and all that technology that only became available to the public within my lifetime had never happened, couldn't we still live happy lives?

Anyway, nothing of the sort that might theoretically save our high tech society is going to happen. Our industrial civilisation has never even once diverged from the trajectory of the middle run scenario in Limits to Growth (1972), and I don't think we ever will; we're headed for full blown collapse, just as projected. The Club of Rome was right. What needs to be done is so far removed from what our civilisation as a whole wants to do, from what the powerful elites want it to do (continue growing so their money becomes more money, Karl Marx has always been right about Capitalism as well), that it simply won't happen before it's too late; and looking at the state of the planetary systems, it may be too late already to avoid collapse.

Therefore I think that we must prepare for a future when everything is lost, everything falls apart, nothing works anymore, people are dying by the hundreds of millions, and whoever survives will have to make everything by hand out of whatever materials happen to be available. I think civilisation as a whole might end, humans might be reduced to small nomadic tribes for tens of thousands of years until the biosphere has healed to the point where it can support a larger human population and has become stable enough for humans to settle down again. By that time, everything we have learned and invented during the Holocene will be lost, our descendants will have to start from zero again.

But if that happens, it's still OK. Let's concentrate on not going extinct for the next 70 000 years or so, even if the survivors will live in tents and huts forever.
