We are hopeful that we will be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state sooner. If that does happen, there may be times when the site has to be brought down temporarily until this is fully resolved. Please stay tuned for further info.
Refer to our status page for more information.
Posted: 17:45 UTC 29 October, 2026
Earlier today, we detected evidence of a security incident on AO3. We are still in the early stages of response to this security incident and determining its scope. AO3 will remain down while we continue investigating and addressing what has been found so far. However, we want to make some things clear:
First, no AO3 data has been deleted. All your works, bookmarks, kudos, etc., are safe.
Second, while we currently don’t believe that the user database was stolen, we are also unable to rule it out. The AO3 database contains account information that may include your username, email address, IP address, and a hashed version of your password.
We use industry-standard techniques for storing passwords in a scrambled form that cannot easily be reversed. Even so, no hashing method can fully protect a weak or reused password from being cracked. As a precaution, we recommend that you change your passwords on any other sites where you use the same password as on AO3.
AO3 does not collect real names, so none could be exposed. Additionally, our donor information is held in an entirely separate system and is never linked to AO3, so that data has also not been exposed.
We will update everyone as our investigation continues; we may be unable to respond to individual inquiries from users. Please keep an eye on our official outlets for updates. Our next update will be posted when we have further information available.
Our current expectation is that AO3 will be down for a minimum of two weeks; however, it could take up to four weeks. During that time, we may be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state, meaning that not all features will be available and/or the site may be read-only. If we are able to do that, please be aware that we might have to bring the site back down unexpectedly as part of our recovery efforts. We will keep you in the loop for any developments
Refer to our status page for more information.
Posted: 01:48 UTC 30 October, 2026

https://ao3commentoftheday.tumblr.com/post/831872225778040832

#october #utc #refer #please #however

#rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit 2026-10-30T08:37:21Z https://nostr.now/nevent1qqsqq9et9s2fx03048t4klzcg94wmhp4sxp3pfm6968ka5p2xph7x3szyqpnxg3a598mm4t640frtv5yfu65n2n6dnucn2dz2gx568hnk53hknnyuud AO3 Down for Maintenance

ao3org:
ao3org:
ao3org:
AO3 is down for maintenance.
Refer to our status page for more information.
Posted: 07:34 UTC 29 October, 2026
AO3 maintenance is in progress. Fearing a disconnect with your fellow fans and fandom? Well, I have a (possible) solution for you: JOIN THIS FEST!
GOAL: Being productive in these dark times, and hopefully having a BUNCH of fresh content to post on AO3 once the site is back up!
METHOD: If you are a creator (writer, artist, podficcer, moodboard creator, etc) then create as much postable content as possible! If you are a consumer (reader, viewer, listener, etc) then interact w/ creators’ works and be a cheerleader!
TIMELINE: This fest starts NOW (yes, NOW) and ends when the AO3 Shutdown is over!
For now, anything that’s considered “postable content” is something that can reasonably be one AO3 post (a one shot, a single chapter of a fic (pre-existing or not), a single piece of fanart, a single moodboard, etc).
Feel free to TAG @ao3shutdownfest AND THIS BLOG WILL REBLOG YOUR POST whether it be content from a creator or cheerleading from a consumer!
I’ll flesh stuff out some more later, and figure out the logistics of making an AO3 Collection (once the site is back up) and coordinating posting there so that hopefully AO3 doesn’t get overwhelmed, but for now, GO FORTH AND CREATE!

https://ao3commentoftheday.tumblr.com/post/831848517300584448

#welcome #fest #post

#rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit 2026-10-30T04:05:40Z
