is it too late to join the #pipewire party? i hope not, or else my #flx1 will be sad

all applications that use pipewire can finally utilize the camera (adding to our list of v4l, qtmultimedia and android apps)

one issue we are facing is that aperture is not very happy with the back cameras, so applications like #GNOME snapshot or authenticator will have the preview flipped. captured frames are surprisingly not flipped tho:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/snapshot/-/issues/261

#furios #furilabs #LinuxMobile #mobilelinux

for this months updates, we are reworking our fingerprint setup entirely. the daemon (Biomd) is now written from scratch and no longer links against QT or libhybris.
while at it, i ended up writing a PAM module and a provider for #Fprintd which means all existing applications that use Fprintd will now work with our service.

one thing i wanted to experiment with was parallel PAM instances for stuff like sudo, so here is how far i got in about an hour

#furilabs #flx1 #LinuxMobile #furiphoneflx1

so yes the rumors are correct (this was leaked on reddit a few days ago, oh well)

the #FLX1 will be getting support for hooking up to external displays. the difference here compared to other approaches is that it will be running full #GNOME shell instead of #Phosh desktop mode (with some integration). as much as we love Phosh, GNOME shell simply provides a superior experience on a large display (and our community members voted for this too)

#furilabs #FuriPhoneFLX1 #LinuxOnMobile #LinuxMobile

#FuriOS update 13.0.8 for #FLX1 has been delayed by about 10 days, but you why was this?

I decided to find the reason for the battery drain here is what we found

firstly, packagekit is a battery hog, so we wrote a #GNOME software plugin for aptkit for system updates, second was related to modems mainloop being blocked (sometimes and inconsistently) and not going to sleep and last (the hardest to find) was with the WiFi driver not going to sleep correctly.

All fixed up and landing this month!

whats funny to me is how misinformative some blog/news websites are.
one example being https://www.howtogeek.com/weird-and-wacky-linux-hardware-devices/
people, bloggers, journalists. for god's sake, at least contact us to get some info before talking technical.

You have a Debian rootfs, then there's one lxc that runs a small system image which exposes some services in binder that we interact with for things like sensors or the modem
The base system is Debian
Android apps work in a separate container too.
Please get your facts right!

Initially the plan for bootman was to make it split a partition from LVM and reuse that for dual boot, but then Dogman (npub1u4m…y99l) brought up sd card for installation storage which sounded good, so i decided to make it work. now, it can now boot from that too.

This will also allow for installation of other operating systems such as SailfishOS or Ubuntu Touch when they get ported over to the device, so its not limited to FuriOS only.

#flx1 #furios #furilabs #FuriPhoneFLX1 #LinuxOnMobile #LinuxMobile

someone in the chat asked if the flx1 can run a KVM machine and my initial thought process was well, probably not out of the box since during the boot process EL2 is locked and even if kernel has KVM, it will never initialize correctly.

so today after finishing my daily tasks i decided to take a stab at our bootloader, preloader and trustzone's source code.

Lo and behold, turns out i did indeed cook.

Docker support will land in the next release too!

#flx1 #furilabs #FuriPhoneFLX1 #qemu #kvm

Now that the 13.0.6 is in prod, time to showcase something I have been working on for a few days during our QA time of this release. (yes we have a QA team lol)

Bootman is a boot manager that can switch between multiple installed systems (currently FuriOS only since we support that officially and no port for other systems exist yet).

I have a GTK4 app in progress that can install FuriOS (and possibly other systems in the future), hopefully we can land this for release 13.0.7.
#flx1 #furilabs
